Job description

QB Energy is on a clear path to becoming one of the top natural gas producers in the country, backed by Quantum Energy Partners, one of the top private equity firms in energy, with a 20-year drilling inventory and integrated upstream and midstream operations built to compete with the best gas projects in North America. We create long-term value through continuous improvement and bold innovation — and we're looking for entrepreneurial people who want to help build that future, not just work in it.

Operating across roughly 400,000 net acres in the Piceance Basin of Western Colorado, we're proving that aggressive growth and real environmental stewardship go hand in hand. Join a team that takes as much pride in how we build this company as in what we produce.

Job Summary

QB Energy is seeking a Senior Facilities Engineer with strong technical judgment and a genuine curiosity for new tools and smarter ways of working. This role manages and engineers the company's project needs across water disposal and treatment facilities, compressor stations, pipeline networks, separation facilities, tank batteries, well pad production equipment, and air quality control systems — evaluating existing infrastructure and leading retrofit projects, including those focused on power consumption. Responsibilities also include assessing the cost-effectiveness of surface production facilities, instrumentation and control systems, emission control devices, water treatment equipment, flowback equipment, pipelines, and pump stations to support efficient field operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead technical equipment selection for power generation and transmission projects.
  • Partner with the air emissions team to scope projects and quantify reductions.
  • Proactively research and deploy emerging technologies — from emissions capture to AI-assisted engineering tools — targeting compressors and well unloading, crankcase and packing emissions, and site purging events.
  • Work with Facilities and Operations to deploy low/no-emission power sources, including electrification and microturbine projects.
  • Own engineering deliverables such as process simulations, facilities design, PFDs, P&IDs, and electrical one-lines (via internal or external resources).
  • Collaborate with production engineering to analyze and optimize infrastructure performance (gas gathering, compression, water delivery/pumping).
  • Apply data-driven analysis to identify bottlenecks, underperforming equipment, and utilization opportunities across wells, separation equipment, pipelines, and compressors.
  • Maintain accurate, current facility documentation.
  • Provide I&E engineering support for facility design, including control system architecture, SCADA/PLC integration, and field instrumentation selection.
  • Support power supply and distribution, including PDC/MCC/switchgear procurement and coordination with electrical contractors.
  • Review and specify electrical distribution, motor controls, and control panel designs for compressor, water treatment, and production facilities.
  • Partner with I&E technicians and controls contractors to troubleshoot instrumentation, telemetry, and automation issues.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with all company employees, contractors and with the local service companies
  • Provide engineering leadership and identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and profitability of gathering and compression systems
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including timely written reports as requested
Qualifications
Education:
  • B.S. in Petroleum, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering required
Experience:
  • 7+ years in oil and gas production or facility operations
  • 3-5 years of hands-on I&E engineering or controls experience preferred
  • Familiarity with evolving EPA, CDPHE, and COGCC methane/emissions regulations
Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong written and oral communication
  • Organized, resourceful self-starter able to manage multiple priorities
  • Flexible to travel and work long, irregular hours
  • Creative and analytical problem-solver, able to diagnose root causes and translate data into engineering decisions
  • Composed under pressure with frequent interruptions
  • Strong leadership, integrity, and interpersonal skills
  • Self-disciplined with a strong work ethic
  • Specialized Knowledge:
  • Economic analysis and decision-making under uncertainty
  • Comfortable adopting new digital tools, including AI-based software, to accelerate engineering workflows
  • Compression optimization
  • Production processing and surface facility design, operation, and maintenance
  • Effective in multi-disciplinary team environments
  • Project management
  • I&E design principles (control panels, motor controls, power distribution, field instrumentation)
  • SCADA, PLC, and telemetry systems for production and emissions monitoring
Compensation

The base compensation for this role in this location is targeted between $155,000 and $195,000 annually. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the range listed above.

Benefits and Perks

As a QB Energy employee, you'll receive a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage (lowest-tier medical premiums covered 100% for employees and dependents), company-paid life, AD&D, and long-term disability insurance, a 401(k) with a 100% match up to 6% of compensation, paid time off and holidays, gym membership reimbursement, an onsite gym, cellphone reimbursement, and paid parking or an RTD pass.
