Job summary

Komatsu America Corp. seeks an experienced Engineering Analyst to analyze mechanical components, structures, and systems across design and hardware stages to ensure performance and reliability for mining equipment.

The role involves applying advanced analytical methods, leading multiple analysis projects annually, and collaborating with design engineers to drive improvements and cost reductions. Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 5+ years in analysis are required.

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of structural analysis using listed tools.
  • Strong fundamentals in strength of materials, fatigue theory, and engineering physics.
  • Interest in Agentic AI and willingness to learn Python/C++.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze new and existing designs to reduce prototypes and improve quality.
  • Plan and execute 10+ analysis projects per year with reports.
  • Advise design and test engineers on analysis.
  • Participate in Change Management to achieve outcomes.
  • Support communication to meet global design and safety standards.
  • Help improve engineering processes for design and development.
  • Pursue ongoing learning for personal/organizational benefit.

Job Overview

Analyze mechanical components, structures, and systems in concept, design, or hardware stages toensureadequate performance for the intended function. Recommend and evaluate design modifications to solve product reliability issues, improve performance, and add value. Participate in the development of advanced analytical methods and techniquesutilizingstate-of-the-arttechnology.

Perform inengineer projects to develop,maintainand support components,productsand/or services per market demands, and for continual process improvements. Perform or conduct engineering evaluations including investigations, fundamental calculations,and tests that have well defined requirements and desired outcomes. Provide conceptual and strategic solutions to solve problems associated with engineering projects or evaluations.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Perform analysis on new and existing designs, which: 1)reducesnumber of prototypes; 2)improvesproduct quality; and 3)reduceswarranty expenses for mining equipment, sales of which typically exceed $1Bper year.
  • Plan and execute 10+ analysis projects per year and deliver comprehensive technical data reports.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and support in area of design analysis for design and test engineers.
  • Participate in effective Change Management to achieve the desired organizational outcomes by successfully changing individual behaviors as needed.
  • Participate in and support programs for effective communic ation of engineering issues to ensure compliance with global standards for design and safety of products and services, as well as engineering best practices.
  • Participate in and support improvements to streamline engineering processes used to design, develop, maintain and support components, products, and/or services.
  • Take responsibility for one's own learning and development for the mutual benefit of one's self and the organization.
Qualifications/Requirements

Required Skills

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or equivalent relevant discipline, required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering, design, machine application, required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in engineering structural analysis, using tools such as Ansys Mechanical, Abaqus, Nastran, etc…, required.
  • Strong background in engineering calculations and fundamentals including strength of materials, closed-form calculations, free-body diagrams, fatigue theory, and engineering physics, required.
  • Interest in, and willingness to use Agentic AI other assistive technology, required.
  • Interest in, and willingness to learn Python, C++, or other coding languages, required.
  • Experience in cross-functional team assignment(s), required.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in hands-on and problem solving environments including: Laboratory, Prototype build, R&D, Test, home or farm workshop, and manufacturing, including: casting, machining, fabrication, and assembly, desired.
  • Experience in Ansys Workbench, Mechanical, MAPDL, Discovery, and the Ansys tool suite, desired.
  • Knowledge and experience with analyses utilizing non-linear materials and non-linear contact for Roll Over Protective Structure (ROPS) simulation and analysis in support of ISO 3471 and similar laboratory testing, desired.
  • Knowledge of dynamic analysis utilizing MBD (ex. MSC ADAMS), desired.
  • Knowledge of testing and strain gage theory, application, and test design, desired.
  • Experience within the mining industry, desired.
  • Proficient in the use of Pro/E Creo, SolidWorks or other CAD tools, desired.
  • Participation in implementing Lean Engineering principles, desired.
  • Participation in effective Change Management implementation, desired.
  • Professional registration and/or membership in committees and/or technical societies, beneficial.
Additional Information

Hiring Range

At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $110,000 - $140,000. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
