Job summary

GRAIL seeks a Senior Engineer, Operational Excellence in Durham, NC to drive continuous improvement across sequencing-based cancer screening operations. You will combine data, process, and Lean methods to enhance efficiency, quality, and scalability in laboratory and operational workflows.

The role requires 6+ years in process engineering or similar, with experience in NGS or diagnostics and proficiency in data analysis tools. On-site, full-time position with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in process engineering, operations, or continuous improvement roles in biotech/diagnostics/manufacturing.
• Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies (certification a plus).
• Experience with data analysis and visualization tools (Excel, SQL, Python, Tableau, Power BI).
• Familiarity with SPC/QC tools and statistical analysis techniques.
• Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail and data accuracy.
• Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across teams.
• Experience in NGS, clinical laboratory operations, or diagnostics workflows; familiarity with regulated environments (CLIA, CAP, FDA) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain operational dashboards and visualizations to track performance across workflows.
• Support KPI reporting, ensuring data integrity and usability.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to refine metrics and improve visibility into operational performance.
• Perform data exploration and statistical analysis to identify trends and deviations.
• Apply SPC and QC methods to monitor process stability and drive improvements.
• Execute Lean initiatives (5S, Kaizen events, Six Sigma projects) and lead CAPAs with cross-functional teams.
• Capture and document issues, risks, and opportunities; maintain backlogs and ticketing systems.
• Work with Operations, Engineering, Software, and Product teams to translate needs into technical requirements.
