Job summary

GRAIL seeks an Engineer, Operational Excellence in Durham, NC to drive Lean initiatives and improve sequencing-based cancer screening workflows. You will lead data-driven improvements across lab and operations, applying SPC/QC and statistical methods to monitor stability and guide decisions.

The role partners with Operations, Engineering, Software and Product teams; requires detail orientation, data fluency, and strong cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
• 3+ years in process engineering, operations, or continuous improvement roles in biotech/diagnostics/manufacturing.
• Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen; certification a plus.
• Data analysis and visualization with Excel, SQL, Python, Tableau, Power BI.
• Familiarity with SPC/QC tools and statistical techniques.
• Strong problem-solving, detail orientation, and cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Operational Data & Reporting: generate and automate KPI reporting with data integrity.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to refine metrics and improve visibility into performance.
• Process Analysis & Monitoring: explore data, identify trends and deviations; apply SPC/QC methods.
• Continuous Improvement Execution: lead Lean initiatives including 5S, Kaizen, Six Sigma projects.
• Pilot, measure, and scale process improvements with operations teams.
• Capture and prioritize operational issues, risks, and improvement opportunities.
