Job summary

GRAIL is seeking a Senior Engineer, Operational Excellence to drive continuous improvement across sequencing-based cancer screening operations in Durham, NC. You will combine data, process, and Lean methods to boost efficiency, quality, and scalability in lab workflows.

The role requires strong experience with SPC/QC, Kaizen and Six Sigma, plus hands-on data analysis (Excel, SQL, Python, Tableau/Power BI). You will partner with Operations, Engineering, Software and Product teams to implement

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
• 6+ years of experience in process engineering, operations, or continuous improvement roles in biotech/diagnostics/manufacturing.
• Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies (certification a plus).
• Experience with data analysis and visualization tools (Excel, SQL, Python, Tableau, Power BI).
• Familiarity with SPC/QC tools and statistical analysis techniques.
• Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail and data accuracy.
• Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across teams.
• Experience in NGS, clinical laboratory operations, or diagnostics workflows; familiarity with regulated environments (CLIA, CAP, FDA) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operational Data & Reporting: develop and maintain dashboards to track performance across workflows and automate KPI reporting.
• Process Analysis & Monitoring: perform data exploration and SPC/QC based analyses to identify trends and deviations.
• Continuous Improvement Execution: lead Lean initiatives (5S, Kaizen, Six Sigma) and drive CAPAs with cross-functional teams.
• Issue Tracking & Prioritization: capture issues, manage backlogs, and prioritize improvement efforts with stakeholders.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: work with Operations, Engineering, Software, and Product to translate needs into clear requirements.
