Electrical System Design & Infrastructure
- Design, specify, and oversee implementation of facility electrical distribution systems (e.g., 13.8kV / 7.2kV medium voltage and 480V low voltage systems).
- Develop single-line diagrams, load studies, and coordination studies to ensure system capacity, selectivity, and reliability.
- Specify and support installation of transformers, switchgear, MCCs, panelboards, and associated protection systems.
- Ensure proper grounding, bonding, and power quality (harmonics, voltage stability, etc.).
Operations Support & Troubleshooting
- Provide advanced electrical engineering support to maintenance and operations teams during equipment failures and system disturbances.
- Perform root cause analysis on electrical failures, including power interruptions, equipment faults, and system instability.
- Support troubleshooting of critical production equipment tied to facility electrical systems.
- Develop and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence of electrical failures.
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
- Establish and optimize preventive maintenance programs for electrical infrastructure (transformers, breakers, relays, cables).
- Develop testing programs including thermography, insulation resistance testing, relay testing, and power quality monitoring.
- Analyze maintenance data to identify failure trends and proactively address risks.
- Support lifecycle management and replacement planning for electrical assets.
Projects & Capital Improvements
- Lead or support capital projects involving electrical systems, including equipment installations, plant expansions, and infrastructure modernization.
Reliability & Continuous Improvement
- Drive initiatives to improve electrical system reliability and reduce downtime.
- Identify and implement system upgrades (e.g., redundancy, improved monitoring).
- Support energy efficiency initiatives and power usage optimization.
Standards, Safety, and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 70E, OSHA, and all applicable codes and regulations.
- Support arc flash studies, labeling, and hazard mitigation strategies.
- Enforce safe electrical work practices including LOTO and PPE requirements.
- Maintain compliance with ISO 14001 and IATF 16949.
Documentation & Technical Leadership
- Maintain accurate electrical documentation including single-line diagrams and as-built drawings.
- Act as subject matter expert for facility electrical systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (required).
- 5–10 years of experience in industrial or heavy manufacturing environments (required).
- Strong experience with facility electrical power distribution systems (required).
- Knowledge of electrical protection systems and power system analysis (required).
- Experience with NFPA, NEC, and OSHA standards (required).
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Proficiency in electrical drawings and schematics.
- Experience with power system analysis software (SKM, ETAP, EasyPower) preferred.
- Experience working with utilities and incoming power systems preferred.
- Familiarity with PLC/SCADA systems (support level) preferred.
- CAD or AutoCAD Electrical experience (required).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure preferred.
