Job Summary

Operating independently of day-to-day Senior Engineering oversight, the Electrical Engineer II owns the design, integration, optimization, and documentation of advanced industrial power generation systems from concept through production. This role carries full accountability for control system architecture, safety and protection analysis, code compliance, and field-testing and troubleshooting performance, and serves as the primary technical resource other engineers and technicians rely on. This role is ideal for an engineer ready to take full ownership of complex power systems, from high-level system design through final sign-off on PLC logic, protection schemes, and fault analysis, and to begin functioning as a subject-matter expert within the team.

Essential Duties
  • Collaborate with R&D Team on new product functionality and requirements.
  • Perform new circuit design from start to finish, including reliability, component selection, associated PLC logic, component orientation and mounting, schematics and wiring diagrams, and harness drawings.
  • Assist in the development of manufacturing, construction, and installation standards and specifications for electrical products.
  • Evaluates electrical products, components, installation, and applications to ensure they meet specific standards and codes.
  • Conducts performance, reliability, and compliance testing for all power solution systems.
  • Assists with electrical equipment and process troubleshooting.
  • Conduct fault current and arc flash analysis.
  • Familiarity with PLC logic.
  • Systems Design & Specification: Independently translates high-level project requirements into detailed electrical system designs, with final authority over component selection for compatibility, performance, and manufacturability.
  • Control Systems Architecture: Owns the design, implementation, and documentation of complex control systems; develops, troubleshoots, and reviews PLC logic (and related programming languages), including work produced by Electrical Engineer I.
  • Design Change Management: Owns and approves engineering design changes across new and legacy systems; administers version control and signs off on ECOs.
  • Gives final review and approval on control schematics and harness drawings for production, including designs escalated from Electrical Engineer I.
  • Project Management: Independently manages cross-departmental engineering projects, coordinating scope, timelines, and deliverables with production, procurement, quality, and field teams, driving new product and system upgrade initiatives from design through deployment.
  • Testing, Validation & Troubleshooting: Leads end-to-end testing of new hardware and system upgrades; independently performs root-cause analysis on complex, system-level electrical failures in lab and field-installed environments.
  • System Protection & Safety Analysis: Independently performs Fault Current Analysis and Short-Circuit Coordination Studies and finalizes breaker ratings and protection schemes, no longer requires Senior Engineering supervision.
  • Grounding & Bonding Design: Independently specifies and approves grounding and bonding parameters for equipment and site-specific installations.
  • Code Compliance & Standards: Ensures designs meet NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and site-specific code requirements; contributes to developing internal design standards.
  • Cross-Functional Technical Liaison: Serves as the primary point of technical escalation for production and field teams on complex or cross-product issues, representing engineering without routine Senior Engineering involvement.
  • Mentors and reviews the work of Electrical Engineer I staff on circuit design, PLC logic, and fault analysis.

Qualifications
Education
Required
  • 4 Year / Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant field from an accredited university. Electrical expertise with another accredited engineering bachelor’s is acceptable.
Experience
Required
  • 2 years of experience in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Honorably discharged service veterans are preferred.

  • Ability to apply engineering fundamentals to design, prototype, test, and evaluate electrical systems & components.
  • Experience supporting senior engineers and contributing to product development and reviews.
  • Understanding of design documentation, testing protocols, and procedural compliance.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Capable of participating in team discussions, design reviews, and interdepartmental coordination.
  • Good problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.

  • Power Systems Expertise: Advanced knowledge of electrical engineering principles in three-phase power distribution, industrial power systems, and power generation, applied independently across complex system designs.
  • Standards & Compliance: Working mastery of NEC, NFPA 70E, and IEEE standards as applied to industrial power equipment, grounding, bonding, and arc flash safety; makes independent compliance determinations without senior review.
  • Control Systems & Logic: Advanced proficiency in PLC programming and control system architecture; independently designs, troubleshoots, and reviews analog and digital control signal implementations, including work produced by Electrical Engineer I.
  • Protection & Analysis: Proficient in Fault Current Analysis, short-circuit coordination, and protective relaying; independently finalizes breaker ratings and protection schemes.
  • System Documentation: Reviews and gives final approval on electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and single-line diagrams.
  • Design Software: Advanced proficiency in industrial electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical).
  • Technical Documentation: Advanced technical writing skills to prepare and approve specifications, test protocols, and comprehensive engineering reports.
  • Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting: Independently leads root-cause analysis on complex, system-level electromechanical failures.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to independently manage cross-departmental engineering projects — scope, timelines, and deliverables — coordinating with production, procurement, quality, and field teams.
