- Evaluate building systems, including HVAC, boilers, domestic hot water, lighting, controls, motors, pumps, and building envelopes, to identify energy efficiency opportunities.
- Apply Minnesota Technical Reference Manual (TRM) methodologies, engineering calculations, field measurements, and utility data to determine energy savings, cost-effectiveness, and available incentives.
- Prepare comprehensive audit reports outlining findings, calculated energy savings, recommended improvements, and potential rebate opportunities.
- Collaborate with engineers to evaluate custom energy efficiency measures and conduct additional technical analysis as needed.
- Perform technical quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews of energy audits, calculations, and recommendations.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior analysts on building systems, auditing practices, energy calculations, and program requirements.
- Support continuous improvement of audit procedures, calculation tools, training resources, and quality control processes.
- Serve as a technical advisor to customers, helping them understand energy efficiency opportunities, program requirements, and available incentives to encourage implementation.
- Collaborate with contractors and trade allies to communicate technical requirements, recommendations, and program opportunities.
- Present audit findings, energy savings, and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences to support informed decisions and measurable program results.
Required Skills
- Relevant energy auditing or building science certification, or ability to obtain an approved certification after hire; AEE Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) or BPI Building Analyst Professional preferred.
- 4+ years of experience in building energy audits, assessments, commissioning, HVAC analysis, or related building energy work.
- Experience evaluating building systems, identifying energy efficiency measures, and calculating energy savings using established engineering methodologies.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and working knowledge of domestic hot water, pumps, motors, lighting, controls, and building envelope measures.
- Ability to independently conduct site audits, perform technical analysis, and clearly communicate recommendations to customers.
- Strong customer service, collaboration, problem-solving, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Teams.
- Ability to safely access multifamily building environments, including mechanical rooms, stairs, and rooftops.
- Must be able to independently coordinate regional travel, including occasional after-hours and overnight travel.
Preferred Skills

- Experience supporting utility energy efficiency programs.
- Advanced knowledge of multifamily HVAC, boilers, domestic hot water, heat pumps, and building electrification.
- Experience working with contractors, trade allies, and equipment vendors to move energy efficiency measures from recommendation through installation.
- Experience mentoring or providing technical review of other energy professionals.
- Strong ability to influence and build trust through technical credibility, collaboration, and authentic communication.
