Job summary

Amazon Prime Air is seeking an experienced Electrical Hardware Development Engineer to design and develop avionics hardware and distributed systems for Prime Air Drones in Seattle, WA. You will work with suppliers and internal teams to drive hardware from concept to mass production, perform analyses, and verify designs to DO-160/DO-254 standards.

This role requires 6+ years of hardware design experience, strong PCB and schematic skills, and a Bachelor's in Electrical/Computer Engineering.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems and systems experience.
  • 6+ years of electrical engineering work experience in Consumer Electronics, Power Electronics, Robotics, Aerospace, Automotive, and/or Communications fields or combination thereof.
  • Experience in component selection and understanding of component reliability
  • Experience in motherboard design, PCB design including schematic capture, stackup and circuit board layout
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Architecture and Hardware Designs, develops, Avionic compute and distributed system hardware (air data probes, lidar, radar, gnss antennas)
  • Design and test other analog/digital devices components such as navigation hardware, satellite communication, air data probes, DC-DC converts and protection circuitry.
  • Perform electrical analyses, circuit simulation, components sizing and selection, create electrical schematics and PCB layouts.
  • Support engineering trades, estimates and interact with suppliers/partners on critical components and develop hardware from concept to mass production.
  • Support developing hardware and component level requirements/specifications.
  • Increase the engineering rigor behind designs, verification, and documentation.
  • Perform prototype hardware and systems in labs.
  • Perform formal verification testing including DO-160 and DO-254

Prime Air is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to design and develop electronic hardware and related Avionic systems and architecture for Prime Air Drones. This includes, Avionic compute and Avionics distributed systems hardware. In this role you will be working with our Seattle based team to help to deploy new hardware and Avionics architecture systems for Prime Air Drones. You will work with internal and external vendors to support hardware development, manufacturing and test. Export Control License: This position may require a deemed export control license for compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Placement is contingent on Amazon's ability to apply for and obtain an export control license on your behalf.

Key job responsibilities

Basic Qualifications
  • Experience in component selection and understanding of component reliability
  • Experience in motherboard design, PCB design including schematic capture, stackup and circuit board layout
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
  • 6+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems and systems experience
  • 6+ years of electrical engineering work experience in Consumer Electronics, Power Electronics, Robotics, Aerospace, Automotive, and/or Communications fields or combination thereof.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
  • Experience with the project management of technical projects
  • Experience collaborating with the ECAD/physical board designer and able to review PCB designs with Allegro, CAM350, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of developing electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical (2010 or newer) experience
  • 5+ years of hardware development, test lab, space/aerospace maintenance or hands-on engineering environment experience
  • Experience in new hardware product development

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
