Job summary

Amazon.com Services LLC in Seattle, WA is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the Prime Air drone propulsion subsystem design and test development. You will create 3D CAD models and drawings, perform structural analysis, and contribute to robust high-volume production designs.

Collaboration across electrical, thermal, and test teams is essential. The role requires 4+ years in mechanical engineering, prototyping experience, and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical design and layout trades contributing to overall system architecture configuration, collaborating with Electrical, RF, Thermal, Dynamics, Mechanisms, Materials, Manufacturing, Assembly, and Test.
  • Generate detailed 3D CAD assemblies/components and 2D drawings as deliverables.
  • Conduct static, dynamic, and modal structural analysis as needed to support design work.
  • Deliver efficient designs for high-volume production throughput (DFM, DFA).
  • Documentation and presentation of materials for technical design reviews.
  • Design and support test campaigns for drone hardware development and qualification.

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support the development of Prime Air Drone electrical propulsion subsystem hardware & related test systems. In this role you will be working to mature and document designs, add and increase engineering rigor, help deploy new test systems and work with internal and external groups to support its fabrication. You will also be responsible for developing new test hardware and supporting ongoing development efforts.

Export Control License

This position may require a deemed export control license for compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Placement is contingent on Amazon’s ability to apply for and obtain an export control license on your behalf.

Key job responsibilities
  • Mechanical design and layout trades contributing to overall system architecture configuration selection, requiring knowledge and experience in understanding, collaborating and trading complex inputs from multiple other disciplines - Electrical, RF, Thermal, Dynamics, Mechanisms, Materials, Manufacturing, Assembly, and Test.
  • Generate detailed designs with 3D CAD assemblies/components and 2D drawings as deliverables.
  • Conduct static, dynamic, and modal structural analysis as needed to support design work.
  • Deliver efficient designs capable of high volume production throughput (DFM, DFA).
  • Documentation and presentation of materials for technical design reviews.
  • Design and support test campaigns, both development and qualification/acceptance, for drone hardware.
Basic Qualifications
  • 4+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience with prototyping and implementation
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools
  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Knowledge of current industry standards

Salary and Benefits

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
