Job summary

Egis is seeking a Senior Drainage Engineer to deliver highway and interstate drainage and stormwater projects across North Carolina, partnering with clients and multidisciplinary teams to drive design excellence from concept through final design.

The role offers a flexible hybrid work model with an option to work remotely within North Carolina or from our Raleigh office, and opportunities to mentor teammates while expanding technical leadership across a growing global organization.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of drainage and stormwater design experience for transportation projects.
• North Carolina PE license is required.
• BSCE is required.
• Proficiency with MicroStation, ORD, ICPR, ASAD and related hydraulic modeling software.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of highway and interstate drainage and stormwater projects.
• Perform drainage calculations from preliminary engineering through final design.
• Develop and review plans, specs, reports, and cost estimates.
• Coordinate with staff, subconsultants, NCDOT and reviewers to ensure quality.
• Manage schedules, budgets, scope, and documentation.
• Build and maintain client relationships and support business development.
• Lead or assist with proposals, scopes of work, and fee estimates.
• Attend client meetings and coordination sessions across North Carolina.

What You'll Do

You'll play a key role in the planning, design, and delivery of transportation drainage and stormwater projects that make a lasting difference for communities across North Carolina.

• Lead the development of highway and interstate drainage and stormwater improvement projects.
• Perform and oversee drainage engineering calculations from preliminary engineering through final design.
• Develop and review plans, specifications, technical reports, and cost estimates.
• Coordinate with project staff, other engineering disciplines, subconsultants, NCDOT, and project reviewers to ensure quality and accuracy.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, scope, and project documentation.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships while supporting client development efforts.
• Lead and/or assist with proposals, scopes of work, and fee estimate preparation.
• Attend client meetings and project coordination sessions throughout North Carolina.

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of drainage and stormwater design experience supporting transportation infrastructure projects.
• North Carolina Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) required.
• Proficiency with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), ICPR v3/v4, ASAD, and related hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software.
• Strong understanding of transportation drainage design, stormwater management, and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills with the ability to manage client and project team relationships.

Bonus Points If You Have

• Experience serving as a project manager or task lead for transportation infrastructure projects.
• Managing project budgets, schedules, scope, and quality control.
• Developing scopes of work, fee estimates, and technical proposals.
• Proven success supporting business development efforts and cultivating long-term client relationships.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and supporting team development.
