Job Summary

To support our extraordinary team who build great products and contribute to our growth, we're looking to add a Sr Director of EH&S and Sustainability located in Austin , Tx.

Reporting to the VP of EH&S the Sr Director, EH&S is responsible for responsible for mentoring, coaching and directing site EH&S professionals to implement Corporate EH&S programs created to ensure that all regional operations comply with regulatory and corporate policies. Drive cultural change with a high degree of employee engagement. Provides leadership and works closely with EHS Leadership on the creation, implementation and maintenance of best Corporate EH&S standards and programs.

What a typical day looks like
  • Drive EH&S Excellence: Lead and contribute to overall EH&S excellence by providing strategic direction and technical expertise to initiatives aimed at improving EH&S performance while minimizing risks and liabilities across multiple disciplines, including industrial hygiene, machine safety, hazardous waste management, and environmental permitting.
  • Mentor and Coach: Guide and mentor site EH&S professionals in executing compliance responsibilities, enhancing their skillsets, and building overall team capability.
  • Leadership Engagement: Provide effective leadership and engage with each site to achieve best-in-class EH&S performance.
  • Cultural Change: Collaborate with regional leadership to drive cultural change around EH&S, fostering high levels of employee engagement.
  • Leverage Best Practices: Implement and articulate EH&S goals, objectives, initiatives, policies, procedures, and key performance indicators across the region.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build relationships with Business and Functional leaders to foster support for continuous EH&S improvement.
  • Metrics Monitoring: Collect, monitor, analyze, and evaluate metrics to measure the effectiveness of EH&S compliance and training programs, providing feedback to senior management.
  • Assess EH&S Maturity: Evaluate current EH&S maturity levels and develop a tactical plan for necessary EH&S programs.
  • Project Management: Manage EH&S-related capital projects, including permitting and risk mitigation through engineering controls.
  • M&A Support: Support due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, as well as post-merger integration and real estate transactions.
  • Incident Monitoring: Oversee a monitoring program to analyze workplace incidents and near misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective measures to eliminate hazards.
  • Risk Reduction: Execute safety strategies to reduce employee risk and promote a behavioral-based safety culture.
  • Training and Support for Leaders: Assist in training and supporting leaders and teams in conducting root cause analyses and implementing corrective actions during safety incident investigations
The experience we're looking to add to our team
  • A bachelor's degree in environmental science, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) management, mandatory within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading EH&S programs and initiatives across multiple sites or locations in global capacity.
  • Experience in managing EHS compliance and regulatory matters, including OSHA regulations, EPA environmental requirements, and state/local safety standards.
Regulatory Knowledge

In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations, including general industry and construction safety regulations. Familiarity with EPA regulations and state-specific environmental laws.

Workers' Compensation Expertise
  • Proven experience managing workers' compensation programs, including incident reporting, claim management, and loss control measures.
  • Understanding of the workers' compensation claims process and best practices for injury management and prevention.
Insurance Industry Experience
  • Experience interacting with insurance companies, including negotiating coverage, premiums, and managing claims related to workplace incidents.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and management practices necessary for determining adequate insurance coverage for EH&S liabilities.
Technical Proficiencies
  • Strong understanding of incident investigation techniques, root cause analysis, and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Proficient in using EH&S management systems and software for reporting, tracking, and analysis of compliance metrics and incidents.
