Job summary

Jobot Consulting seeks a Senior Database Administrator for a large California bank on a 12+ month contract with potential conversion. The role involves managing on-prem SQL databases, Enterprise Always On, and modernizing with IaC and cloud integrations.

Compensation is $70–$80 per hour with full benefits on contract: medical (75% paid), dental, vision, and 401k. Hybrid data orchestration and strong security/compliance practices are required.

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or OCI).
• Relational DBMS mastery: SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL; NoSQL basics.
• Automation scripting in Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
• HA design with multi-region replication and automated failover.

Responsibilities

• Assist with on-prem SQL databases including Enterprise Always On.
• IaC automation for provisioning of database environments (Terraform/Ansible/CloudFormation).
• Hybrid data orchestration between local data centers and cloud services (RDS, Azure SQL, BigQuery).
• FinOps to monitor cloud usage and right-size resources.
• DevOps/CI/CD integration of database changes into deployment pipelines.
• Security & compliance enforcements across environments (IAM, encryption, audit trails).
• Performance tuning of SQL queries and cloud resources (IOPS, memory, networks).

Responsibilities

• Assists with on prem SQL databases, including Enterprise Always On (2016, 2019, 2022) and toolsets such as SolarWinds DPA (database performance analyzer).
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Automate the provisioning and management of database environments using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
• Hybrid Data Orchestration: Manage data movement, synchronization, and replication between local data centers and cloud-native services like Amazon RDS, Azure SQL, or Google BigQuery.
• FinOps & Cost Optimization: Proactively monitor cloud resource consumption and right-size instances to prevent "bill shock" from inefficient queries or over-provisioned resources.
• DevOps & CI/CD Integration: Collaborate with development teams to integrate database changes into automated software deployment pipelines (CI/CD).
• Security & Compliance: Enforce data governance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, SOC2, HIPAA) across distributed environments, managing identity access (IAM), encryption, and audit trails.
• Performance Engineering: Tune not just SQL queries, but also cloud-specific resources like IOPS, memory, and network latency in virtualized environments.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Cloud Platforms: Deep expertise in at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or OCI) and familiarity with multi-cloud architectures.
• Database Management Systems (DBMS): Mastery of relational systems (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL) and increasingly NoSQL or Big Data solutions (MongoDB, Snowflake, Cassandra).
• Automation Scripting: Proficiency in Python, PowerShell, or Bash to automate repetitive tasks like patching and backups.
• Disaster Recovery: Designing high-availability (HA) solutions that utilize multi-region replication and automated failover.
