Who You Are:

We are seeking a Sr Construction Inspector with knowledge and experience of construction standards and practices. The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of experience performing construction inspection within Virginia, including work for VDOT. The Sr Construction Inspector will have responsibilities outlined in the Construction Inspector description, plus additional responsibilities listed below.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor contractor operations to ensure compliance with contract terms and specifications on VDOT-related projects.
• Coordinate and direct all phases of construction inspection, especially on projects with extensive traffic control, environmental sensitivities, or requiring significant coordination with property owners, utility companies, or government agencies.
• Schedule and coordinate construction phases with contractors and agency personnel.
• Review and monitor contractors' plans, advise of violations.
• Conduct field measurements and material testing.
• Maintain comprehensive project records, including diaries, material notebooks, as-built plans, pay records, schedules, work orders, and estimates.
• Assist in developing work orders, investigations, and analysis of Notices of Intent.
• Evaluate progress schedules and analyze work orders.
• Serve as Lead Inspector when necessary, overseeing a team of inspectors.

Qualifications:

The candidate must have 7+ years of highway construction inspection experience and meet all requirements of the TS II-C / Construction Inspector certification. Additionally, the candidate should have comprehensive knowledge of:

• Roadway, structure, and bridge construction, maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation methods, materials, standards, and specifications.
• VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications, Standards, Construction Manual, and Inspector Manual.
• Possession of VDOT certifications related to concrete, pavement, drainage, asphalt, and other inspection areas.
• Understanding of state and federal environmental, safety, and EEO regulations.

The candidate should also be proficient in:

• Providing technical supervision and leadership.
• Preparing for and conducting project meetings.
• Applying mathematical formulas and field management principles.
• Communicating effectively with agency, contractor personnel, and the public.

The candidate must maintain the necessary certifications, which may vary depending on task requirements.

Note: The rate for this position is subject to the maximum hourly rate specified in the current CEI Classification Hourly Rate Pay Limitations Memorandum.
