Qualifications

General Summary:

This is the second level of a customer-facing role as a Billing Experience Consultant, part of a three-tiered career path. The Sr. Billing Experience Consultant collaborates across departments to ensure invoice accuracy, follow up on outstanding payments, and resolve billing issues. This role requires in-depth knowledge of Unum Group, CLA, or VB products and services, handling all business types from standard to complex. It is vital for building customer loyalty, supporting growth, and achieving financial goals.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage policy administration and coordinate activities related to Group, CLA, or VB plans, fees, and support Unum Platforms.
  • Support, educate, and resolve billing inquiries from internal and external partners.
  • Perform audits on enrollment, premium remittance, compensation validation, and policy changes.
  • Enhance customer service by managing high volumes of inquiries via email and phone.
  • Build strong partnerships to resolve billing issues and respond to escalations involving technology and process issues.
  • Analyze financial reports and data, taking appropriate actions.
  • Meet departmental metrics and goals.
  • Lead process improvements, system enhancements, and problem-solving initiatives to improve customer experience and team efficiency.
  • Ensure high quality and accuracy in all interactions and outputs.
  • Respond promptly to Field Partners, Brokers, and Groups, ensuring service standards are met.
  • Develop and present billing and administrative presentations to stakeholders.
  • Mentor and coach junior team members.
  • Commit to personal development.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 3-5 years in a customer service role within the industry.
  • Proven performance with at least 12-18 months as a Billing Experience Consultant or similar.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Excel and strong research, problem-solving skills.
  • Deep understanding of insurance marketplace.
  • Minimal travel may be required.

The salary range is $45,600 - $86,200, based on skills, location, and experience. Unum offers competitive benefits including healthcare, insurance, incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) with employer contributions. All benefits are subject to plan terms.
