Job description

Job Title : Senior Azure Infrastructure Engineer – Microsoft Fabric Implementation

Job Type : Contract

Contract Duration : Approximately 2-3 months

Worksite Location : Fully Remote

Compensation : $75.00 - $100.00 / hour, based on experience and credentials

Vaco is seeking a highly experienced Senior Azure Infrastructure Engineer to assist with the implementation of Microsoft Fabric for our client, a healthcare organization handling PHI data. This consulting project will be fully remote, lasting approximately 2-3 months with potential for extension. Candidates must pass a criminal background check and drug screen, and be legally eligible to work in the United States, as sponsorship is not available.

Project Overview

The client initially built their data warehouse in AWS using Redshift, but faced performance issues leading to migration to Azure. Their implementation with Synapse Analytics has also encountered performance and cost challenges. They have decided to implement Microsoft Fabric, a Spark-based platform, as a new solution. The Azure Data Architect / Fabric SME is leading the project, seeking a hands-on Sr. Azure Infrastructure Engineer to help determine optimal deployment areas for Fabric Capacity, secure deployment, and related tasks.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Identifying the best network segment to deploy and secure Fabric Capacity.

Understanding Entra ID Conditional Access Policies to plan and configure access groups for Fabric resources.

Having visibility into the USAP Azure cloud and on-premises network setup, making necessary adjustments for Fabric deployment.

Deploying services such as:

  • Fabric on-premises data gateway
  • Fabric virtual network data gateway
  • Private endpoint connections between Fabric workspaces and data sources like EDW, databases, and storage accounts

Candidates should have experience with Fabric implementation, infrastructure, networking, and security.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Ensure seamless SQL Server integration, addressing performance and security.
  • Implement certificate-based authentication for secure client connections.
  • Define and enforce access policies for compliance and data protection.
  • Drive project progress independently, minimizing client data team interactions.
  • Facilitate data access via public access, avoiding VPNs.
  • Support Power BI integrations for reporting and analysis.
  • Complete initial implementation within approximately two months, as mandated by the CEO.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience implementing Microsoft Fabric in enterprise environments.
  • Expertise in Azure infrastructure, networking, and security.
  • Knowledge of PHI data protection, compliance, and security protocols.
  • Experience with certificate-based authentication and access policies.
  • Ability to operate independently and drive project forward with minimal oversight.

This is a high-impact opportunity to lead a critical healthcare implementation. If qualified, we look forward to hearing from you!
