Job summary

Lycoming Engines, part of Textron Systems, seeks an experienced engineer to lead development of mechanical design methods for complex engine problems and support installations. You will coordinate with engineering, procurement, quality and sales, and guide customer installations from concept to final product.

The role requires 6–10 years of experience, a Bachelor’s in engineering, and strong MS Office and communication skills. Travel up to 50% is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline; Masters degree would be a plus.
  • Understanding of Six Sigma methodologies desirable.
  • 6 to 10 years of experience required.
  • Knowledge of FAA regulations and certification experience is a plus.
  • Excellent presentation skills; MS Office proficiency (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Project).
  • Strong technical writing skills for reports and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Guides the development of new and modified legacy engine applications including development into a final product.
  • Serves as a resource to others with respect to engine applications and installation; considered an expert in product application/installation disciplines.
  • Identifies and orchestrates implementation of new technologies supporting engine and vehicle product improvement.

Job description

Description - External

Develops and applies advanced mechanical engineering design methods and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex technical problems. Leads customer application related evaluations and problem solving efforts, including new customer installations. Plans, conducts, technically directs and evaluates projects or major phases of significant projects, and as needed coordinates the efforts of technical support staff.

Analyzes, evaluates and plans method of approach and organizes means to achieve solution of complex technical problems, and has the capability to conduct or lead tests. Reviews literature, patents, and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects. Evaluates vendor capabilities to provide required products or services.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:

This position reports to the Director, Engineering Technology. The person in this role will interface with all internal departments, especially Engineering, Procurement, Quality and Sales. Also interfaces with various outside contacts including customers, suppliers and possibly independent contractors.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering Discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, etc).
  • Masters Degree is a plus.
  • Understanding of Six Sigma methodologies desirable.
  • 6 to 10 years previous experience is required.
  • Knowledge of FAA regulations and certification experience is a plus.
  • Excellent presentation skills required - MS Office Suite conversant (Powerpoint, Excel, Word, Project).
  • Excellent technical writing skills for writing and reviewing reports required.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time required.
Additional Competencies Required:

Teamwork approach; ability to resolve conflicts; strong organizational, interpersonal and communications skills; ability and willingness to travel and knowledge of GD&T and Six Sigma methodologies preferred.
