Applied Information Sciences, Inc. (AIS) seeks a Senior Software Architect to lead complex, multi-domain architecture initiatives on-site in Washington, DC.

The role requires deep expertise in Java/Spring Boot, Angular (v17+), PostgreSQL, and AWS, with a proven ability to guide AI-assisted development workflows. You will define enterprise patterns, drive architectural quality, and mentor technical teams while operating under security requirements including Top Secret clearance.

Qualifications

• Active Top Secret Clearance and ability to work on site in Washington DC.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Strong expertise in Java/Spring Boot, Angular (v17+), PostgreSQL, and AWS.
• Demonstrated experience with AI-assisted development workflows.
• Excellent debugging and architectural design skills to steer AI agents effectively.

Responsibilities

• Write, review, and refactor Java (Spring Boot) back-end and Angular (v17+) front-end code.
• Use AI tools to generate boilerplate, write unit tests, and perform modernization tasks.
• Ensure outputs adhere to security, AWS cloud architecture, and PostgreSQL standards.

Senior Software Architect

For this position, we are seeking a talented individual to join AIS as a Senior Software Architect.

Core Knowledge & Skills

• Operates as a multi-domain subject matter expert (e.g., Security, Data) with industry depth, defines enterprise patterns, and guides adoption across solutions.
• Work & Complexity: Plans and directs the most complex, cross-functional, mission-critical initiatives, and evaluates industry standards to drive innovation and intellectual property.
• Quality & Independence: Acts independently with organization-wide influence, sets visionary bars for quality, reliability, and delivery practices.
• Teamwork & Communication: Models company values, mentors across the organization, builds formal networks with decision makers, and serves as an external spokesperson.

Key Responsibilities

• Write, review, and refactor Java (Spring Boot) back-end and Angular 21 front-end code.
• Use AI tools to generate boilerplate, write unit tests, and perform application modernization tasks.
• Ensure AI-generated outputs strictly adhere to security, AWS cloud architecture, and PostgreSQL database standards.
• Manually review, debug, and optimize code to prevent integration issues and low-quality abstractions.

Required for This Opportunity

• Active Top Secret Clearance and the ability to work on site in Washington DC.
• Undergraduate or masters degree in Computer Science.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Strong expertise in Java/Springboot, Angular (version 17 or higher), PostgreSQL, and AWS environments.
• 4+ Years Experience in JAVA/Springboot.
• 4+ Years Experience in Angular.
• 3+ Years Experience in PostgresQL.
• Demonstrated experience working in AI-assisted development workflows.
• Excellent debugging and architectural design skills to steer AI agents effectively.
• Nice to Have Skills: Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker.
• Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD): Experience with CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
• Experience working in Agile development environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams.

At AIS, we are committed to offering competitive and fair compensation that reflects the skills, experience, and contributions of each team member. The targeted base salary range for this role is $195,000-$210,000 per year. Please note that this range is provided as a guideline and the final offer will be based on several factors, including but not limited to, skillset and competencies, level of experience, education, certifications, and location.
