Sr. Actuary, Agribusiness Pricing

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Actuary/Sr. Actuary to lead our Commercial Agribusiness Pricing portfolio. This role is pivotal in driving modernization and strategic influence within our organization.

Role Scope & Impact

1. Lead the Commercial Agribusiness Pricing portfolio, managing a team of actuaries.
2. Serve as a strategic partner to business leaders across product, underwriting, finance, and claims.
3. Drive modernization efforts—introducing structure, templates, and analytics.
4. Present regularly to senior executives, providing insights and recommendations.

Preferred Skills and Experience

1. FCAS; ACAS with strong experience.
2. Background in commercial lines or agricultural pricing.
3. Proven change agent—able to lead transformation and build new processes.
4. Strong communicator with executive presence.

Job Description Summary

As a Senior Actuary, you’ll be an expert providing leadership and oversight for complex actuarial techniques, procedures, and risk analysis. You’ll manage research and direct others to ensure efficient, consistent, and integrated data and analysis. We count on you to provide strategic vision and deliver business recommendations crucial to Nationwide’s success. You’ll work independently and may lead others.

Job Responsibilities

• Act as technical expert of actuarial methodologies, sourcing and manipulating data within standard requirements, and identifying new data utilization strategies.
• Conduct complex analyses, make assumptions, recognize considerations, and develop recommendations, resolving unreasonable results with experience and judgment.
• Document assumptions, methods, sources, and considerations systematically.
• Create presentations and recommendations suitable for technical and non-technical audiences, representing the company's position with regulators, auditors, and vendors.
• Oversee multiple work plans ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
• Lead peer review processes, driving cross-functional collaboration and process improvements.
• Build strategic relationships across the organization to facilitate solutions.
• Identify skill gaps and develop training to prepare associates for future needs.
• Advise on data mining techniques and recommend software to support strategic goals, with expertise in modeling and predictive analytics.
• Consult on new or enhanced product development, including data requirements and profitability analysis.

Reporting & Experience

Reports to the Actuarial leader. Requires an undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or data science, and an actuarial designation such as FCAS, with at least eight years of experience. Must have expert knowledge of actuarial methods, software, and industry practices.
