We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Actuary/Sr. Actuary to lead our Commercial Agribusiness Pricing portfolio. This role is pivotal in driving modernization and strategic influence within our organization.
Lead the Commercial Agribusiness Pricing portfolio, managing a team of actuaries.
Serve as a strategic partner to business leaders across product, underwriting, finance, and claims.
Drive modernization efforts—introducing structure, templates, and analytics.
Present regularly to senior executives, providing insights and recommendations.
FCAS; ACAS with strong experience.
Background in commercial lines or agricultural pricing.
Proven change agent—able to lead transformation and build new processes.
Strong communicator with executive presence.
Comfortable navigating ambiguity and building from the ground up.
High visibility with senior leadership.

Our Property and Casualty (P&C) Actuarial team members have opportunities to use state-of-the-art tools, are encouraged to innovate, and learn to master actuarial methodologies. If this sounds like a place you could thrive, then we want to know more about you!
As an Actuary, you’ll show a mastery of business operations, systems, and actuarial methodologies. You will provide leadership, direction, and oversight for complex actuarial techniques, procedures, and risk analysis. Additionally, you’ll develop a strategic vision for the team to ensure efficient, consistent, and integrated data and analysis. We’ll count on you to provide business recommendations crucial to Nationwide’s success and customer protection. You’ll work independently and may lead others (directly and/or indirectly).
Act as a strategic technical expert of actuarial methodologies, sourcing and manipulating data within standard requirements.
Conduct complex analyses, adhering to actuarial standards, making assumptions, recognizing considerations, and developing recommendations. Resolve unreasonable results using experience and judgment. Influence broad strategic vision through analysis.
Document assumptions, methods, sources, and considerations systematically.
Prepare and present actuarial findings for technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership. May represent the company with regulators, auditors, and external vendors, and negotiate within defined parameters.
Develop cross-functional work plans, ensuring accurate delivery, and identify additional business partners needed for success.
Develop and implement peer review techniques, participate in peer reviews to ensure quality, drive innovation, and provide guidance.
Build strategic relationships across the organization to drive solutions.
Identify training gaps for new associates and develop solutions.
Use data mining techniques to identify new relationships and make recommendations. Have foundational knowledge of modeling software and expert use of predictive modeling. Lead in recommending new software impacting long-term success.
Operate as a corporate leader to influence Nationwide’s strategic direction.
Consult on new or enhanced product development, discussing data needs, coding implications, and viability and profitability assessments.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reports to Actuarial leader.
Education: Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data science, or similar, requiring modeling, programming, or quantitative analysis.
License/Certification/Designation: Actuarial designation required, generally as an FCAS. Refer to the Nationwide PC Insurance Company Actuarial Student Program for details.
Experience: Generally, seven or more years of actuarial experience.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Expert knowledge of actuarial functions, statistical methods, models, software, and databases. Mastery of Microsoft Office, analytical software, and programming languages. Basic organizational agility and conflict management. Command skills, strategic agility, delegation, motivation, business perspective, and accounting. Mastery of perspective, problem-solving, customer focus, dealing with ambiguity, drive for results, analysis, and learning.
Other criteria, including leadership skills and competencies, may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions require approval from the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.

Salary Range: $124,000 - $238,000. Expected starting salary: $134,000 - $202,000.
