This hands-on, full-time role blends bookkeeping for small business clients with shaping AI-powered accounting, delivering reconciliations, AP/AR, and month-end close on a cloud platform.

You’ll work with senior leadership to translate workflows for engineering and business teams, while leveraging AI tools to improve efficiency in a dynamic startup environment.

Qualifications

• 4–6 years hands-on accounting or bookkeeping for small businesses
• Experience managing books for multiple external clients
• Strong command of reconciliations, AP/AR, month-end close and financial reporting
• Solid understanding of U.S. bookkeeping practices

Responsibilities

Our team at The Recruiting Pros is conducting a search for a Senior Accountant on behalf of afast-growing B2B payments fintech company. This is a brand-new, hands‑on rolethat blends bookkeeping/accounting for small‑business clients with helpingthe company shape the future of AI‑powered accounting . As the SeniorAccountant, you will support a portfolio of U.S.-based accounting partners andsmall‑business clients on a modern cloud accountingplatform — owningreconciliations, AP/AR, month‑end close and financial reporting — while usingand evaluating AI‑powered tools to make that work faster, more accurate andmore scalable. The right person will be technically credible enough to dothe accounting work personally , and entrepreneurial enough to questionthe existing process, document what they learn, and help translate accountingworkflows for engineering, business and senior leadership . This is a newlycreated position reflecting the company's continued growth, offering directexposure to the CEO and other senior leaders and the chance to help build a newcapability from the ground up. This is a full‑time, hybrid positionrequiring three (3) days per week onsite at the company's Union Square officein New York City.

Routineresponsibilities will require you to:

• Support day-to-day bookkeeping for a portfolio of U.S.-based accounting partners and small‑business clients on a modern cloud accounting platform, delivering accurate, reliable and timely work.
  
• Own hands‑on bank and credit‑card reconciliations, AP/AR, month‑end close and financial reporting activities.
  
• Serve as a trusted, responsive and service‑oriented point of contact for accountants and clients.
  
• Use AI‑powered tools throughout the workflow to improve the speed, accuracy and quality of accounting work.
  
• Test and evaluate AI tools, identifying what works, what doesn’t, and where the biggest opportunities for automation and efficiency are.
  
• Translate accounting workflows and client pain points for engineering, business and senior leadership teams.
  
• Document learnings, workflows and best practices so other bookkeepers can adopt and scale what you've built.
  
• Partner closely with senior leadership to help shape how the company delivers AI‑powered bookkeeping services to U.S. small businesses.
  

Required education and experience:

• 4 – 6 years of hands‑on accounting or bookkeeping experience for small businesses, ideally through an accounting firm, client accounting services practice or outsourced bookkeeping provider.
  
• Experience managing books or accounting work for multiple external clients rather than a single internal company.
  
• Strong command of reconciliations, AP/AR, month‑end close and financial reporting.
  
• Solid understanding of U.S. bookkeeping practices and requirements.
  
• Genuine passion, curiosity and understanding of AI, automation and process improvement — including demonstrable experience using AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) to improve or automate workflows is a must.
  
• Familiarity with Xero or a comparable modern/cloud accounting platform is a plus; CPA credential is a plus.
  
• Startup, fintech or fast‑growth environment experience is a plus.
  
• Highly independent and comfortable being the first person in a newly created role.
  
• Polished, confident and credible when working with senior executives, clients, engineers and business leaders.
  
• Strong written communication, process‑documentation and client‑service skills.
