Job description

Overview

Senior Accountant — 100% Remote | Preferred: Pittsburgh, PA; Chicago, IL; Nashville, TN.

Our client is a fast-growing, multi-entity operator in the food & beverage / retail space, backed by an experienced leadership team and an ambitious multi-year expansion plan. As the organization scales rapidly through new store development and construction, they are adding a Senior Accountant to strengthen close accuracy, accrual discipline, and construction accounting rigor. This role partners closely with the Controller and finance leadership, while working alongside outsourced accounting partners, to ensure the balance sheet tells the right story — especially around prepaids, accruals, CIP, and fixed assets.

Position Overview

The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in maintaining accounting integrity in a high-growth, construction-heavy environment. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys digging into details, tightening accrual processes, and owning the accounting side of new builds from ground-up construction through capitalization. The organization operates on a 13-period fiscal year, making strong accrual judgment and cut-off discipline essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own and review monthly accruals and prepaids, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and proper period recognition
  • Partner with finance leadership to support a timely and disciplined monthly close process
  • Review balance sheet accounts and reconciliations; investigate and resolve variances and aging items
  • Support construction accounting, including:
    • Tracking Construction-in-Progress (CIP)
    • Reconciling final build costs
    • Capitalizing assets and transitioning projects to fixed assets
  • Prepare and support loan draw schedules and documentation related to construction activity
  • Coordinate with outsourced accounting partners to ensure consistent close execution and accounting quality
  • Assist with audit support, lender requests, and financial diligence as needed
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve close processes, documentation, and internal controls
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Must reside in the Eastern or Central standard time zone
  • Strong hands-on experience with accruals, prepaids, and balance sheet accounting
  • Prior exposure to construction accounting, retail, restaurant, QSR, or multi-location environments strongly preferred
  • Comfortable working in a high-growth, fast-paced organization with evolving processes
  • Experience working with or overseeing outsourced accounting partners
  • Advanced Excel skills; ERP experience required (Sage experience a plus)
  • Public accounting background helpful but not required; CPA not required
Work Environment
  • 100% remote role
  • Preference for candidates based in Pittsburgh, Chicago, or Nashville to align with leadership and operating hubs
  • Collaborative but independent role requiring strong ownership and follow-through
