Job summary

York County, VA seeks an entry-level to junior IT professional to assist with the support, maintenance, and development of the County’s SQL Server databases and related systems.

You will work on real estate CAMA and document management systems, support data integrations with SSIS, generate SSRS reports, and contribute to Power BI dashboards to monitor business metrics. A foundational knowledge of T‑SQL and SQL Server is expected, with growth through mentorship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Internship, coursework, or 1–2 years of experience in database administration, development, or support preferred.
• Requires an acceptable criminal background investigation and FBI fingerprint check.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Fundamental knowledge of T-SQL and SQL Server query development.
• Basic understanding of SSIS or other ETL tools and concepts.
• Basic experience with SSRS; Power BI experience a plus.
• Familiarity with Visual Studio and languages such as C#, PowerShell, VBA, or Python.
• Familiarity with source control systems (Git) and cloud-based DB platforms preferred.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to troubleshoot and follow methodical processes.
• Physical requirement: lift up to 55 pounds; moderate activity.

Responsibilities

• Assist in development, testing, and implementation of database solutions.
• Create and maintain basic SSIS packages and data transfer scripts.
• Support administration of real estate CAMA and document management systems.
• Develop and maintain SSRS reports and contribute to Power BI dashboards; perform basic data analysis.
• Participate in requirements gathering and testing; document test cases.
• Apply security/retention policies; support recovery testing.
• Coordinate release deployments and communicate updates to stakeholders.
• Maintain diagrams, data dictionaries, and knowledge base; share knowledge with IT team.
• Assist with database system development, integration, and maintenance.
• Add data and manage data dictionaries across work files.
