Job description

WHO WE ARE

Spyglass Ops is an operations consultancy that helps purpose-driven founders scale their businesses through operations. We run deep business inspections, act as a fractional COO partner, and recruit and coach operations leaders. Put together, we help founders step out of the day-to-day and build companies that operate well without them.

Our Core Values are:

  • Play Like a Nerd: We are a team of nerds, each passionate about our own area of expertise. When you are a nerd for what you do, work is play, and we play hard.

  • Own Your Opportunities: Every mistake is an opportunity. We take as much ownership as we can and use it as feedback to improve. Fault and blame have no place here.

  • Commit to Your Own Potential: We expect ourselves, each other and our clients to keep growing into the most capable version of ourselves and the impact we can have.

  • Van Talk: We are all in this van together. Van Talk means speaking honestly, and receiving honest feedback as a genuine act of service toward our shared goals.

We're looking for someone who genuinely connects with our mission and values. This alignment is critical for success in this role.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Spyglass Ops team is looking for a proven high-ticket Closer with real business and operational fluency to take over our sales process from our founder. You will run diagnostic sales conversations with warm, inbound leads (we are currently booking ~10 qualified calls/week) for our $45K, flagship 90 Day Operator Program. Our clients are founders of 7-8 figure businesses, across many industries, all with Operational bottlenecks preventing growth. Your job is to diagnose whether they are the right fit for our program, and if so, close them into our program with the right expectations to set them and the backend team up for success

Everyone at Spyglass Ops, from sales to product, understands operations, and that matters on our calls. Founders come to us with questions about their margins, their bottlenecks, their team structure, and whether they need a fractional COO, a Head of Operations or something else. You will guide those conversations, taking a consultative approach to help the founder identify what they truly need, and explain clearly how Spyglass can help. The application code word is LEVERAGE. You are a skilled, organized salesperson who manages a conversation with confidence, sets honest expectations and continuously improves the sales process you own.

You will be working directly with our founder, Jhana Li, to build and hand off a founder-independent sales process. This role will be the primary Closer that scales the company from $2M to $4M ARR, and potentially, grow to lead the sales team to take us even further.

This is a remote 1099 contractor position that starts part-time and moves to full-time over a three-month ramp. Because this is a critical position, we host a rigorous, 4-part application process.

The Closer is responsible for:

  • Running diagnostic sales calls and closing high-ticket engagements

  • Tracking sales data and using it to improve the sales process over time

  • Owning the entire sales process, from the appointment setting & lead nurture automations, to managing your own lead pipeline/systems, including the sales inbox and sales CRM

  • Building the automations that keep the sales process running smoothly, utilizing AI as much as possible (with support from our tech team) to streamline and remove manual tasks off your plate, and minimize lead leakage.

WHAT MAKES THIS ROLE UNIQUE

You will learn our sales process from the ground up before taking over sales. You'll start with optimizing our appointment setting automations, owning the sales inbox and CRM. Next, you'll train on our current sales process, and work with our founder to evolve it into a fully founder-independent process. Then, you step into closing as our founder hands off sales leads to you.

By Month 3-4 you will be running sales full time, and over the following months you will grow into handling 100% of our sales lead flow. We built the ramp this way because while our founder is highly effective in the sales role, she’s enabled by her decade of Operational experience. The process will need to be strategically tweaked, and your operational fluency trained up, for a seamless handoff.

By the time you're fully ramped up, you will not just own the sales call, but the entire sales motion for the business.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Month 1 (10 hours/week): Own the appointment setting systems, while training up in our product and current sales process. Shadow our product team through a full client journey, and start optimizing the sales script/process for founder-independent sales.

  • Month 2 (20 hours/week): You are shadowing our founder's sales calls and closing your first leads as calls are handed off to you.

  • Month 3: You are running 100% of our sales calls as the Closer.

RESPONSIBILITIES (TASKS ASSOCIATED WITH THE ROLE):

  • Manage the sales inbox and sales CRM

  • Work with our tech team to build processes and automations, including AI tools, that cut down on manual appointment setting & lead nurture

  • Keep an efficient sales pipeline, every lead, booking and follow-up organized

  • Run diagnostic sales calls with founders of growing businesses

  • Understand each founder's business, numbers and bottlenecks, and connect them clearly to how Spyglass helps

  • Set accurate expectations about what Spyglass delivers so new clients have the best potential experience and retention.

  • Close high-ticket engagements at a minimum of 25% close ratio on qualified leads

Sales Process & Data

  • Continuously own and improve the sales process and script

  • Track sales data from lead to close and use it to drive strategic growth decisions

  • Spot gaps in the sales process, coordinate directly with marketing on lead quality, and continuously seek opportunities for innovation and improvement

Product Knowledge

  • Learn our product deeply so you can represent it accurately and persuasively

  • Coordinate directly with the product & Ops team to continuously improve client expectations and hand-off for maximum client success

REQUIREMENTS (EXPECTED PROFICIENCIES):

Experience Requirements (Non-Negotiable)

  • Business savviness: You have worked closely with 7-8 figure startup founders. You understand their problems, speak their language, and can help them correctly diagnose what they need to take their business to the next level.

  • Operational understanding: You know what operations is, and know how to apply it to improve a sales process. You understand what a COO, Head of Operations or Ops Manager does for a startup, and you can speak to it with confidence

  • High-ticket remote sales: You
