Job summary

Lee Industrial Contracting, based in Pontiac, Michigan, seeks dedicated apprentices for our pipefitting program to install and service fire protection systems. You will learn to handle common hand tools, follow detailed instructions, and work securely with foremen on multiple projects, progressing through essential pipe installation skills.

Qualifications

  • Participate in our employer-sponsored DOL Pipefitter Apprenticeship program.
  • Mechanical ability - able to use hand tools (tape measure, drill, hammer, etc.).
  • Rigging knowledge and safe material handling are valued.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to use common hand tools and apply basic math and geometry to fire protection system installation and services.
  • Support other apprentices, journeymen, and foremen on various projects.
  • Follow instructions from foremen and/or supervisors to ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Keep the job site clean, safe and well-organized.
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Ensure attention to detail and follow safety standards.
  • Fuel and wash department vehicles.
  • Gain essential skills to progress within the department by applying knowledge of pipe installation and service.

Responsibilities

Requirements
  • Participate in our employer-sponsored DOL Pipefitter Apprenticeship program
  • Mechanical ability - able to use hand tools (tape measure, drill, hammer, etc.)
  • Fire Suppression experience in a commercial setting is a plus, not necessary.
  • Collaborate effectively with individuals of all personality types.
  • Understand and execute both verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Work safely and independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating strong self-direction.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Requirements
  • Measure and mark pipes for cutting or threading.
  • Installation of hanger assemblies for pipe securing.
  • Work from ladders and scaffolds to install pipe, fittings, devices, and maintain equipment and fixtures.
  • Lockout tagout.
Equipment and Tool experience
  • Aerial -lift Operation – Boom & Scissor Lift (preferred)
  • Forklift Operation - Material Handling up to 5000# (preferred)
  • Telehandler(preferred)
  • Chauffeur LIC/Med DOT Physical (preferred)
  • Trailer Loading and Securing of Material (preferred)
  • Threader & Groover (preferred)
Rigging Requirements
  • Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and materials.
  • Utilize and understand the constraints of chains, synthetic, metal mesh, and wire rope slings.
  • Use & recognize rigging hardware including hooks, shackles, wire rope clips, clamps, eye bolts, softeners and tag lines
  • Identifies common load configurations & positioning
  • Rigger 1 training – trains on above
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to ascend/descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and/or operate scissor/boom lifts while working at height.
  • Work in permit & non-permit required confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.
  • Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move up to 50 pounds regularly/occasionally
  • Must be able to respond quickly to auditory alarms, visual signals, or other effective means to communicate hazards
  • Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to work in cold/hot environments.
  • Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.
