Job summary

Lee Industrial Contracting in Pontiac, MI is seeking skilled pipefitters to support installation and maintenance across our projects. The role focuses on pipe system layout, material selection, and on-site welding, with emphasis on safety and quality.

You will work with foremen, read blueprints, and participate in our DOL pipefitting apprenticeship, progressing toward advanced piping responsibilities within the department.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–4 years of pipefitting experience is required.
• Participation in the DOL Pipefitting Apprenticeship sponsored by the employer is encouraged.
• Ability to read/interpret blueprints and schematics.
• Knowledge of plumbing & mechanical codes.

Responsibilities

• Support other apprentices and foremen on various projects.
• Follow instructions from foremen and supervisors to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
• Keep the job site clean and well-organized.
• Handle loading and unloading of materials, tools, and equipment.
• Ensure attention to detail and follow safety standards.
• Fuel and wash department vehicles.
• Gain essential service and installation skills to progress within the department.
• Installation of piping systems.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 - 4 years’ Pipefitting experience
• Participate in our employer sponsored DOL Pipefitting Apprenticeship
• Assisting in inspection of current existing systems
• Selecting pipe sizes, types, or related materials, such as supports, or hangers according to specifications
• Power bending
• Hydraulic flaring
• Basic welding, brazing, and soldering experience
• Pre-swaging tool (compression)
• Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair, according to specifications
• Can read/interpret blueprint/schematics
• Basic knowledge of Plumbing & Mechanical Code
• Material take-offs
• Preferred Requirements:
• Process piping system knowledge
• Assist in piping repairs

• Aerial lift Operation - Boom & Scissor
• Hydraulic Flaring Tool
• Hand benders
• Power bender
• Groover
• Floor cutter
• Forklift Operation - Material Handling up to 5000#
• Telehandler
• Gas cutting torch
• Pre - swaging tool (Compression)
• Hydrostatic test pump knowledge & setup
• Chauffeur LIC/Med DOT Physical (preferred)
• Trailer Loading and Securing of Material (preferred)

Rigging Requirements

• Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and materials
• Utilize and understand the constraints of chains, synthetic, metal mesh, and wire rope slings
• Use & recognize rigging hardware including hooks, shackles, wire rope clips, clamps, eye bolts, softeners and tag lines
• Identifies common load configurations & positioning
• Calculate load weights
• Rigger 2 training – trains on above

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to ascend/descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and/or operate scissor/boom lifts while working at height
• Work in permit & non-permit required confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment
• Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move up to 50 pounds regularly/occasionally
• Must be able to respond quickly to auditory alarms, visual signals, or other effective means to communicate hazards
• Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spacesMust be able to work in cold/hot environments
• Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain
