Job summary

Steelcase is seeking an Industrial Design Spring Co-op to join our Global Design team in Grand Rapids from January to April 2027, with a potential extension. You will contribute to the product development process, from research and exploration to prototyping and refinement.

You will collaborate with Industrial Designers, Engineers, Project Managers and Model Makers to understand tooling, fabrication, assembly and product quality impacts.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Furniture Design, or a related field.
• Actively enrolled in a degree-seeking program for the duration of the internship.
• Demonstrating experience with concept development, ideation and form exploration.
• Proficiency in 3D modeling software and Adobe Creative Suite or similar tools.
• Portfolio showcasing design process and project work.

Responsibilities

• Gain hands-on experience contributing to real-world projects from research and concept exploration to prototyping and refinement.
• Collaborate with designers, engineers, marketers, project managers and other partners to solve design challenges.
• Explore ideas through sketching, prototyping, model making and iterative design development.
• Create presentations, documentation and visual materials communicating design direction and recommendations.
• Build relationships across the business to understand how ideas become market-ready products.
