Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a 2027 spring Co-op in Mission Systems, McClellan, CA. You will collaborate with NIC engineers to design and implement navigation and mission-planning software on embedded/real-time platforms.

You’ll gain hands-on experience, participate in Agile ceremonies, and contribute to safety-critical certification artifacts while developing professionally within a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• Be a student enrolled full-time pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree and will be enrolled in Fall 2027.
• Majoring in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related STEM degree.
• Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) for at least 10 weeks during spring 2027.
• Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance; U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with senior software engineers to design, develop, and integrate software components for navigation and mission-planning systems.
• Write clean C/C++ and Python code for embedded and real-time platforms.
• Perform unit, integration, and system-level testing using automated test frameworks and CI pipelines.
• Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to improve quality.
• Document design decisions, API specs, and procedures for internal use and audits.
• Troubleshoot and profile flight-critical software to meet safety and latency requirements.
• Contribute to safety-critical certification artifacts (e.g., DO-178C designs).
• Work in Agile Scrum teams with sprint ceremonies.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure end-to-end mission support.
• Prototype emerging technologies to enhance navigation accuracy and resilience.
