The Tampa Electric Company is offering a Spring 2027 Student Internship in Cybersecurity through its TECO Energy Cooperative Education Program. It targets college students for professional growth while supporting the Energy Supply department on technical projects.

Enrolled ABET-accredited students in Cybersecurity or related fields may participate, with a 40-hour work week, typically Monday–Friday, in a plant/office setting at Big Bend Station in Gibsonton, FL.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in an ABET accredited university; undergraduate or graduate level in a related field.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.
• Enrollment in the university’s co-op program (or intern if unavailable).
• Required degree: Cybersecurity; related disciplines include Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology.

Responsibilities

• Support Windows Server/Workstation environments and virtualization platforms (VMware/Hyper-V).
• Assist with scripting, scheduling, and applying system updates.
• Contribute to vulnerability management, backup and recovery tasks, and industrial automation projects.

Storm Duty Requirements

Tampa Electric and its sister companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.

Position Summary/Details

The TECO Energy Cooperative Education Program offers college degree-seeking students the opportunity for professional growth while meeting the business needs of the company. The program is an extension of the educational process, providing practical experience to complement formal classroom work. The co-op program recruits students from colleges to give them an opportunity to work in a professional environment related to their field of study. Work assignments are consistent with the work needs of the department and the company and provide meaningful and challenging work to the student. These co-op positions will report to Energy Supply and support a variety of technical projects ranging in complexity, scope and time spans.

Accountabilities

As a successful candidate for our Co/Op Position, you would:

• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Systems: Windows Server or Workstation operating systems, VMware or Hyper-V, task scripting and scheduling, applying system updates. Networking: IP addressing and subnetting, VLANs, routing, appliance configuration. Vulnerability management: research, identification, evaluation, and mitigationBackup and recovery: creating, saving, redeploying of backupsIndustrial automation: control logic, communication protocols

Preferred Availability

Full time 40 hours per week will be within a Monday – Friday typically within a 7:00AM – 5:00PM window

Working Conditions

• Combination of Plant/Field and Office environment. Must be willing and able to work in dusty, hot, and noisy environments.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

The successful applicant should be enrolled in an ABET accredited university as a college undergraduate or a graduate level post-secondary educational program in a related discipline.

Co-Op Requirements

• To qualifyas a co-op student, enrollment in the university’s co-op program (proof of enrollment required); if not eligible for co-op program (or program unavailable), the student will be considered an intern.
• A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.
