Job summary

The Whitney Museum of American Art offers a spring 2027 Academic Year Internship in person. The Finance team seeks a Financial Planning and Analysis Intern to support budget templating, automation, and reporting for 176 hours across 10–12 weeks.

Intern will refine templates, build automation, track variances, prepare dashboards for leadership, and assist fundraising data with the Advancement team. The program, paid with a $3000 stipend, provides direct supervision by the Sr.

Qualifications

• Rising senior or graduate student enrolled in an accredited degree program.
• Finance, accounting, economics or related field coursework preferred.
• Strong Excel and PowerPoint; BI or automation/AI tools preferred but not required.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and capable with large datasets.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to work independently with proactive supervision.

Responsibilities

• Refine standardized budget templates used by museum departments.
• Identify and build automation for recurring budgeting tasks.
• Track actuals vs. budget and analyze variances.
• Prepare summary materials and dashboards for leadership reviews.
• Collaborate with Advancement for fundraising analytics.
• Support cash flow reporting with cleaned data and standard pools.

Job description

The Whitney’s Academic Year Internship program offers a semester-long paid internship for rising Juniors and above (to include Graduate students) enrolled in an accredited academic program. The internship is in person and onsite. For spring 2027, interns commit between 16–21 hours per week over 10–12 weeks for a total of 176 hours. The official program dates will span from January 18-April 26, 2027. Interns are assigned to a specific department at the Museum for the duration of the internship.

The Whitney seeks a Financial Planning and Analysis Intern to support the Finance team with budget templating, process automation, project-based reporting and analytics for the Spring 2027 semester.

Expected Projects & Assignments

• Refine standardized, activity-based budget templates that departments across the Museum rely on for planning.
• Help identify and build automation for recurring budget and forecasting tasks, cutting down manual work for the team.
• Track actuals against budget, flag variances, and identify the drivers.
• Assist in preparing summary materials, and dashboards for internal meetings and leadership reviews.
• Partner with the Advancement team on fundraising data; clean and maintain fundraising trackers and help support fundraising analytics.
• Support cash flow reporting by cleaning data and standardizing reporting pools used across the Museum’s Finance function.

Skills & Qualifications

• Rising senior (undergraduate) or graduate student, currently enrolled in an accredited degree program.
• Coursework or academic background in finance, accounting, economics or a related field preferred.
• Strong proficiency in Excel PowerPoint; experience in BI, automation, or AI tools is preferred but not required.
• Detail-oriented, organized and comfortable working with large datasets.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently on assign tasks while communicating proactively with your supervisor.

Provided Training

• You will work directly with the Sr. Manager of FP&A and the wider Finance team, with regular check-ins, real ownership over your projects and consistent training and supervision throughout the internship program.

Compensation

Interns will be paid a stipend of $3000.
