The Whitney Museum of American Art offers a Spring 2027 Ostrover Family Academic Internship in the Education department. • Maintain and organize community programs spaces.
• Complete a final intern project related to community programs.

Job description

The Whitney's Academic Year Internship program offers a semester-long paid internship for rising Juniors and above (to include Graduate students) enrolled in an accredited academic program. The internship is in person and onsite. For spring 2027, interns commit between 16-21 hours per week over 10-12 weeks for a total of 176 hours. The official program dates will span from January 18-April 26, 2027. Interns are assigned to a specific department at the Museum for the duration of the internship.

The Whitney seeks a Community Programs and Partnerships intern in the Education department for the spring 2027 semester.

The Whitney's Community Programs and Partnerships department aims to build pathways for New Yorkers to engage with the richness and complexity of American art. Through partnerships, we work to build sustained connections that go beyond the single museum visit, bringing art, ideas, and dialogue to classrooms, senior centers, and community-based organizations around the city. The work of the Community Programs and Partnerships department is driven by collaboration between Whitney staff, local stakeholders, and artists.

Expected Projects & Assignments

• Providing support for virtual/onsite programs and special events
• Assisting with virtual sessions, workshops, and courses for community partners and senior centers by preparing curriculum materials for freelance educators
• Researching artists in the Whitney's collection and current exhibitions
• Assisting freelance educators offsite at community partnerships
• Administrative support and maintenance of community programs spaces
• Completion of a final intern project connected to community programs and partnerships

Skills & Qualifications

• Passionate about and have some knowledge of contemporary art and social movements (i.e. immigrant justice, racial justice, LGBTQ justice, disability justice)
• Be currently enrolled in or recently graduated with a degree in education, museum studies, disability studies, studio art, art history, or a related field
• Proficiency in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or ASL a plus

• Undergraduates and graduates currently enrolled in accredited academic year programs are eligible
• Applicants must have completed a minimum of one year’s worth of academic coursework; undergraduate freshmen are not eligible
• While a demonstrated interest in art and art history is preferred, students in all majors are encouraged to apply
• Previous museum experience is not required

Compensation

Interns will be paid a stipend of $3000.
