Job summary

The Whitney Museum of American Art invites rising juniors and above to apply for the Spring 2027 Ostrover Family Academic Internship. This on-site, semester-long program requires 16–21 hours weekly across 10–12 weeks, totaling 176 hours, with dates January 18 to April 26, 2027.

Interns will be assigned to a specific department, gain hands-on experience, and support family programs, materials preparation, and program administration.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate and graduate students pursuing advanced degrees; must have completed a minimum of two years' worth academic coursework.

Responsibilities

• Work on site 2-3 days per week (Saturdays and every second Sunday required).
• Assist during in-person Family Programs, work with Social Impact Facilitators, and create a welcoming environment for families and children at the museum.
• Prepare art materials and organize material inventory.
• Perform administrative tasks to support programs (track statistics, create signages and informational materials).

Job description

The Whitney’s Academic Year Internship program offers a semester-long paid internship for rising Juniors and above (to include Graduate students) enrolled in an accredited academic program. The internship is in person and onsite. For spring 2027, interns commit between 16–21 hours per week over 10–12 weeks for a total of 176 hours. The official program dates will span from January 18-April 26, 2027. Interns are assigned to a specific department at the Museum for the duration of the internship. Education: Family Programs

Expected Projects & Assignments

Skills & Qualifications

• Undergraduate and graduate students pursuing advanced degrees; must have completed a minimum of two years' worth academic coursework. Undergraduate first-year and second-year students are not eligible
• Experience working with art materials
• Interest in working with children and families
• Microsoft Office, including Excel
• Creativity, attention to detail, ability to work on a team
• Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student who has completed at least two years of academic coursework
• While a demonstrated interest in art and art history is preferred, students in all majors are encouraged to apply
• Previous museum experience is not required

Outcomes

• The intern will become a valued part of the Family Programs team, assisting in running educational programs for families each week
• They will gain hands‑on experience in preparing art materials, performing administrative tasks to support programs, and facilitating programs

Compensation

Interns will be paid a stipend of $3000. Generous support for Ostrover Family Academic Year Interns is provided by Julie and Doug Ostrover.
