Job summary

The City of Englewood seeks candidates for the SPR/Utilities Operations Apprentice program, a year-long apprenticeship split between SPR and the Allen Water Treatment Plant. Apprentices gain hands-on experience in wastewater plant operations, spending six months at SPR and six months at Utilities.

Apprentices work under licensed operators, follow the training calendar, and are evaluated on learning objectives.

Qualifications

• Preferred: concurrent enrollment in or completion of a water quality program at a local community college or trade school.
• Colorado Wastewater “D” Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Operations Supervisor

Direct Reports: None

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Apprentices are expected to arrive for their shift ready to learn, and communicate any schedule conflicts with their assigned supervisor in advance when possible. Apprentices will learn under the mentorship of licensed operators, and will help keep track of the progress of their learning objectives as defined in the training calendar and apprenticeship program.

Technical Expertise – Plant Operations: Basic knowledge of principles of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations discipline.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED

Related Work Experience:

• Preferred: Concurrent enrollment in or completion of a water quality program at a local community college or trade school.

License, Registrations or Certification:

• Colorado Wastewater “D” Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
In addition to above requirements: new hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person interviews, reference checks, and background checks, which may include local police check, DMV check, drug screen, and fingerprint checks through CBI/FBI.

*An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of forcefrequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

• Encounters with hazardous conditions (including electrical currents, heavy equipment, fumes, bodily fluids, extreme temperatures, threatening behaviors, inadequate lighting, restricted movement, or intense noise) is:

HOURLY RATE

$17.47 - $26.21/Hourly Rate
