Job summary

The YMCA is seeking a Sports Instructor to lead diverse age groups in high-energy, fun, and safe sports programs. You will plan activities, supervise groups, and foster positive experiences for participants while coordinating with staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities include teaching fundamentals, maintaining equipment, guiding staff, and collaborating on special events. Prior experience in sports/coaching is required, with a minimum age of 16.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Experience in sports/specialty activities ( Playing, Coaching, etc.).
  • Ability to supervise youth and adults and maintain safety.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement YMCA sports/specialty programs.
  • Coordinate age-appropriate activities and ensure safety.
  • Teach fundamentals based on participant age/skill level.
  • Supervise groups and maintain positive experiences for all participants.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians and keep relations positive.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance to staff and volunteers.
  • Maintain fair discipline and proper equipment handling.
  • Assist with development of events and activities.

The Sports Instructor will provide leadership to different age groups all while promoting a high-energy, fun and positive environment for program participants! Coordinates activities which are culturally relevant and developmentally appropriateTeach the fundamentals of sports/specialty program area by understanding program participant’s age/skill levelSupervises a group of youth and/or adults to ensure their health and safety, and to provide a positive experience for each personCommunicates with and maintains a positive relationship with parents/guardiansProvides day-to-day guidance to staff and volunteersMaintain and promote a fair, consistent discipline code to all playersEnsure all equipment and gear is account for and maintained, notifies supervisor of equipment issuesAssists with development of special events and activitiesRequirements:Must be at least 16 years of age.Must have prior experience sports/specialty experience (i.e. Playing, Coaching, etc.)Comfortable working with multiple age groupsChild Abuse Prevention - Supports the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by:Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisorFollowing all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of childrenReporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisorCompleting all child abuse prevention training as required
