Indian Boundary YMCA in Downers Grove, IL invites applications for a Sports Instructor. The role leads youth and adults in sports programs, ensures safety, and creates a fun, energetic environment aligned with YMCA goals.

You will plan sports activities, supervise participants, coordinate with parents and staff, and contribute to event development. Minimum age 16 and prior sports experience are required; opportunities for growth within the organization.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Must have prior experience in sports/specialty experience (e.g., playing, coaching).
• Comfortable working with multiple age groups.

Responsibilities

• Plans and implements sports/specialty programs in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA. Coordinates activities which are culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate.
• Teaches the fundamentals of the sports/specialty program area by understanding participants’ age and skill level.
• Supervises a group of youth and/or adults to ensure health and safety, and to provide a positive experience for each person.
• Communicates with and maintains a positive relationship with parents/guardians.
• Provides day-to-day guidance to staff and volunteers.
• Maintains and promotes a fair, consistent discipline code for all players.
• Ensures all equipment and gear are accounted for and maintained; notifies supervisor of equipment issues.
• Assists with development of special events and activities.

The Sports Instructor will provide leadership to different age groups while promoting a high-energy, fun and positive environment for program participants. You will be responsible for the planning of sports programs and supervision of different age groups in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA.
