HOURS: 8-10 Hours/Week, Non-Exempt (Sept. - August)

The Activity Instructor is to provide recreational activities for young people grades K-5th to learn new sports skills; as well as an avenue for self-development, exploration, and expression. Lead physical fitness activities, promote healthy habits, mindfulness, and overall wellness practices, including but not limited to yoga, meditation, and stretching.

MAJOR DUTIES:

• Lead physical fitness sports activities such as basketball, soccer, baseball, etc
• Promote healthy habits, mindfulness, and overall wellness practices, including but not limited to yoga, meditation, healthy cooking, etc.
• Submit lesson/activity plans in-advance.
• Conduct activities enriched with literacy and math skills whenever possible.
• Plan and implement a culminating event or project.
• Complete daily progress reports and attendance.
• Manage setup, operation and clean-up of activities and the organization, inventory and storing of relevant supplies and equipment.
• Attend all staff meetings and staff development trainings sessions, as specified.
• Guide program participants in examining choices, following directions and becoming involved in program activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Sports knowledge such as basketball drills, soccer drills, etc.
• Candidates with some college, experience with adolescents and teaching/coaching youth are encouraged to apply.
• Flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm for young people
• Excellent planning, organization and time management skills
• Ability to engage youth, while setting structure and limits in a group setting.
• Energetic, motivated self-starter and a team player
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth and family development and trauma-informed perspective.
• Experience working youth.
