Job summary

Good Shepherd Services, Ltd seeks a Dance & Cheerleading Instructor for PS 297. The role is 8-10 hours per week, non-exempt, from Sept. to August, teaching dance and cheerleading and following a standardized curriculum.

You’ll prepare age- and skill-appropriate lessons, guide participants in artistic and leadership growth, and collaborate with staff to foster a supportive, structured environment. Strong planning and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience and/or training relevant to the position.
• Some college and experience with adolescents encouraged.
• Flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm for young people.
• Excellent planning, organization and time management.
• Ability to engage youth while setting structure and limits.
• Energetic, motivated self-starter and a team player.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Commitment to a strength-based, youth and family development and trauma-informed perspective.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and develop age- and skill-appropriate curriculum, lesson plans, activities, and special projects.
• Work with program participants to develop their artistic, educational, and leadership potential.
• Pre-planning of activity; activities should provide structure and purposeful routines.
• Managing uniforms and participant gear.
• Facilitate scaffolded activities based on students’ interest to promote teamwork and growth.
• Facilitate group conversations in community hour and participate in other staff-led activities.
• Foster a youth-centered environment with belonging, safety, and community.
• Engage and facilitate group discussions, tracking and supporting students’ academic success.
• Attend staff meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

HOURS: 8-10 Hours/Week, Non-Exempt (Sept. - August)

The Activity Instructor teaches and facilitates a youth centered class tailored to their specific expertise. Candidates with the following expertise are encouraged to apply: Dance and Cheerleading

• Dance (All Styles)
• Dance Instructors are responsible for teaching assigned weekly classes, choreographing recital routines, and following a standardized curriculum.

Major Duties:

• Prepare and develop age, and skill-appropriate curriculum, lesson plans, activities, and special projects that fuse the arts and academic competencies to be reviewed by supervisors before being taught.
• Work with program participants to develop their artistic, educational, and leadership potential.
• Pre-planning of activity; activities are to provide students with structure, purposeful use of activity and self, including beginning and ending rituals.
• Managing uniforms and participant gear
• Facilitate a variety of scaffolded activities based on students’ interest. Activities should promote teamwork, opportunity for mastery, and emotional and professional growth.
• Facilitate purposeful activities in community hour and participate in other staff lead activities as part of the staff team.
• Foster a youth development, strength’s-based environment, fostering a sense of belonging, safety, and community to participants.
• Engage and facilitate group conversations, tracking and supporting students’ academic success.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
