Job summary

YMCA of Collier County is seeking a Sports Director to support youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. • Serve as a role model to members and YMCA staff.
• Ensure programs and services meet community needs; supervise activities and assist in marketing of program information.
• Oversee the athletic department by supervising facilities, hiring staff, managing coaches, and other staff members.
• Coordinate with coaches on game, practice and event schedules.
• Monitor activities and assist coaches with equipment.
• Provide extraordinary customer service to coaches, pros and participants.
• Provide direct supervision to participants and ensure a safe environment; correct hazardous situations.
• Set up and manage youth and adult sport leagues.
• Officiate youth sport activities.
• Use teachable moments during games.
• Assist with set up and take down of equipment; monitor inventory and safe use of department equipment.
• Read and enforce YMCA league rules; communicate rules with whistle and verbal cues.
• Monitor gym, courts or fields during practices and report misbehavior.
• Begin each game with a prayer or devotion.
• Understand and monitor the budget; communicate variances and exercise expense controls.
• Maintain a clean and safe work site; assist custodial staff as needed.
• Follow safety rules and emergency procedures; prepare incident reports and seek supervisor guidance when needed.
• Participate in YMCA financial development efforts including Annual Campaign.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sports Director position supports the work of the YMCA of Collier County, Inc., a leading not-for-profit organization committed to strengthening the communities in Collier County through its core focus areas of Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. The position is responsible for the set up and inventory of sports equipment; preparation of fields and courts for sport activities; coordinating youth and adult games; and overseeing sport camps, clinics, and tournaments. This position assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of all new youth and adult sport programs, including tennis and pickleball.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Serve as a role model to members and Y staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with staff, parents/caregivers, and community organizations. Demonstrate professionalism in executing tasks.

• Ensure programs and services meet community needs; this includes supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding programs within the community as needed. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.

• Oversee the entire athletic department by supervising the facilities as well as hiring staff, managing coaches, and other staff members.

• Coordinate with coaches on game, practice and event schedules.

• Monitor activities and assist coaches and pros if needed with proper equipment.

• Provides extraordinary customer service; be responsive to coaches, pro’s and participant’s needs.

• Provide direct supervision to program participants and ensure a safe environment. Act swiftly to correct any hazardous situations.

• Set up and manage all youth and adult sport leagues.

• Officiate youth sport activities.

• Use teachable moments as often as possible during the course of a game.

• Assist with set up and take down of athletic equipment. Monitor the inventory of department equipment and ensure its effective and safe use.

• Reads and understands the rules that have been developed for the YMCA league. Enforces the rules using a whistle and verbal communication.

• Monitor gym, courts or fields during practices and report any negative behavior to proper channels.

• Begin each game with a prayer or devotion.

• Understand, implement, enter, assist with, and monitor the budget. Communicate variances and exercise necessary expense controls.

• Maintain a clean and safe work site; assist custodial staff as needed to ensure a clean and safe environment.

• Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations including knowledge of emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment.

• Prepare incident reports accurately, consistently, and in accordance with established timelines. Communicate in writing to the supervisor any accident and discipline situations which require corrective actions. Seek guidance from a supervisor in unusual circumstances.

• Participate in and solicit others to participate in necessary YMCA financial development efforts, including the Annual Campaign.

• Maintain certifications listed under Certificates and Other Requirements.

• Adhere to all policies and procedures of the YMCA of Collier County.

• Regular and timely adherence to respective schedule/meetings/trainings.
