Job summary

WVVA, a Gray Local Media station in Bluefield, WV, is hunting for a high-energy Sports Anchor/Multimedia Journalist to own the sports desk and electrify our audience on-air and across digital platforms.

As the home of the market’s powerhouse high school coverage, you’ll report live, shoot, edit, and produce engaging local sports stories, develop enterprise features, and share content across the website and social channels with speed and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Experience as a sports multimedia journalist in a television newsroom preferred.
• Proficiency in shooting and editing video; ability to produce content independently.
• Comfortable contributing to social and digital platforms and engaging with the community.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the weekend sports anchor and multimedia journalist; provide fill-in sports anchoring during the week as needed.
• Shoot, write, edit, and produce compelling sports stories, features, and game highlights with an emphasis on local coverage.
• Report live from events and develop enterprise stories that go beyond the box score.
• Consistently create and update content for the station’s website, social media, and digital platforms throughout the day as needed.
• Meet daily deadlines while maintaining a commitment to accuracy, fairness, and journalistic ethics.

Duties/Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Serve as the weekend sports anchor and multimedia journalist; provide fill-in sports anchoring during the week as needed.

• Proficiency in shooting and editing video; ability to produce content independently.

• Team player with a positive attitude, able to work independently and adapt to a flexible schedule.
• Familiarity with ENPS and Edius is a plus; professional knowledge of broadcast operations is helpful.
• Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and ability to pass a driver's record check required.
