WHSV-TV in the Shenandoah Valley is seeking a high-energy, digital-first Morning News Reporter to join our Daybreak team. You’ll anchor the “New This Morning” segment and lead a streaming morning show, delivering timely updates across TV, social platforms, and streaming services.

The position requires a journalism or communications degree (or equivalent) and newsroom experience, with a strong emphasis on storytelling, shooting, editing, and multi-platform delivery.

Qualifications

• Morning shift availability starting at 3:30 AM.
• Digital-first journalism experience and ability to anchor/produce a morning show.
• Degree in journalism or communications (or equivalent) and relevant newsroom experience.
• Comfort with basic editing and digital posting tools.

Responsibilities

• Anchor the Daybreak morning segment (5:00 a.m. – 7:00 a.m.) with urgency and personality.
• Anchor a dedicated streaming morning show (Daybreak+).
• Engage viewers on social media and digital platforms as stories break overnight.
• Shoot, write, edit, and present content for TV, social, and streaming.
• Collaborate with Daybreak team to ensure seamless coverage.
• Back-up producer/anchor duties as needed.

Job Summary/Description:

Are you the kind of person who actually loves mornings? (Or at least knows how to fake it really well with a strong cup of coffee?) WHSV-TV in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley is looking for a high-energy, digital-first storyteller to join our award-winning "Daybreak" team. As our "New This Morning" Reporter, you won't just be reading the news; you'll be the first voice our viewers hear, setting the tone for their day across TV, social media, and our growing streaming platforms.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Own the morning: Produce and anchor our "New This Morning" segment in our Daybreak newscasts, which air live from 5 a.m. - 7 a.m., delivering the most critical overnight updates with urgency and personality. You should have the ability to break down longer-form national stories into "snackable" segments on "Daybreak."
• Lead the stream: Take the center seat by anchoring your own dedicated streaming morning show, Daybreak+, reaching our audience wherever they are watching.
• Drive digital engagement: Don’t just wait for the 5:00 a.m. hit—engage our followers on social and digital platforms as news breaks overnight.
• Craft compelling stories: Shoot, write, edit, and present content that is conversational, informative, and visually engaging for a multi-platform world. You’ll put a story together during the second half of your day that will air the following day for "Daybreak."
• Collaborate with the best: Work side-by-side with our "Daybreak" producer/anchor and meteorologist to ensure our morning coverage is seamless and superior.
• Represent an award-winning team: Uphold the standards of a station recently named a finalist for "Outstanding News Operation of the Virginias."
• Be the back-up: Fill in on producing and anchoring the newscast when our primary producer/anchor is out.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• A morning-person mindset: You’re ready to hit the ground running at 3:30 AM with a positive attitude and a sense of urgency.
• Digital-first DNA: You understand that news happens on phones and tablets just as much as on TVs, and you’re comfortable navigating both.
• Anchoring ambition: You have the presence and confidence to lead a live streaming show and connect authentically with a digital audience.J
• Journalistic chops: A degree in journalism or communications (or equivalent experience) and at least one year of newsroom experience is preferred.
• Technical versatility: You’re comfortable with basic editing and digital posting tools—or you’re a fast learner who’s ready to dive in.
