Job summary

Children’s National Hospital in Silver Spring, MD, seeks a Proposal Development Specialist I to manage all aspects of sponsored research proposals, including budget development, sponsor compliance, and timelines. You will coordinate with investigators, pre-award teams and external partners to ensure timely, accurate submissions.

The role emphasizes attention to detail, strong communication, and ability to interpret sponsor guidelines across NIH, FDA, DoD, and foundations.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience (Preferred)
• Minimum Work Experience: 1 year grants, contracts, finance, and budget-related experience in a healthcare, academic, research or corporate setting (Preferred)

Responsibilities

• Initiates pre-application meetings with Principal Investigators to discuss Funding Opportunity Announcements and creates proposal-specific timelines.
• Acts as liaison between the Proposal Development team, Grants and Contracts Pre-Award team and Principal Investigators to ensure all requirements and deadlines are met.
• Collaborates with other Proposal Development team members to ensure support of all CRI proposals.
• Ensures the smooth transition of awarded proposals to post-award team through communication and detailed record keeping.
• Verifies compliance training for COI and other required certificates are up to date for faculty.
• Assists investigators by answering questions regarding sponsors, funding opportunities and the proposal development process.
• Develops budgets and budget justifications ensuring accuracy and consistency with sponsor/CRI requirements; applies F&A and fringe rates as needed.
• Reviews funding announcements in detail and communicates deadlines and deliverables to all team members.
• Coordinates and reviews proposal elements for formatting, accuracy, and completeness; secures sub-award documents as needed.
• Monitors proposal statuses, escalates deadlines when necessary, and facilitates Just-In-Time requests.
