Job summary

Ohioans Home Healthcare & Hospice is seeking a Part Time Spiritual Care Counselor (Chaplain) to help patients and families navigate the end-of-life journey. The role provides spiritual care, coordinates with the hospice team, and may include funeral or memorial services.

The position emphasizes understanding of grief, compassion, and ability to network with community clergy to meet patient needs. It offers opportunities for training and a supportive work environment.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and commitment to hospice philosophy.
  • Ability to network with community clergy and congregations.
  • Understanding of grief response and experience with counseling individuals and/or in groups regarding loss.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s level theological/social work education related to end-of-life care.

Responsibilities

  • Assures spiritual assessment of patients and families/caregivers in the hospice program and appropriate services are rendered in a timely manner.
  • Facilitates the development of the individualized plan of care by participating in the comprehensive assessment to meet identified spiritual needs.
  • Provides direct spiritual care to patients and families/caregivers.
  • Recruits community chaplains, spiritual counselors, and spiritual care volunteers adequate to meet patient and family/caregiver needs by developing community contacts and offering education through congregations about hospice care.
  • Provides for funeral or memorial services for patients as requested.
  • Plans periodic memorial services to meet the needs of personnel, volunteers, and community clergy/spiritual counselors working with the hospice team.

Job description

Ohioans Home Healthcare & Hospice is looking for a Part Time Spiritual Care Counselor to help patients and family members to navigate through the end-of-life process. As a Chaplain, you will be responsible for the provision of spiritual care services to patients and families/caregivers of Ohioans Home Healthcare and Hospice, either directly or through coordination of care with other spiritual counselors. We are looking for someone who can understand and empathize with the sensitive time that our patients and family members are going through while utilizing your knowledge in theology to provide them with the appropriate services.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent Theological degree and experience with families/caregivers and patients through death and/ dying issues-or- Master’s degree in Social Work with qualifications of experienced clinical grief counseling preferred
  • Knowledge and commitment to hospice philosophy
  • Ability to network with community clergy and congregations
  • Understanding of grief response and experience with counseling individuals and/or in groups regarding loss
