Spicewalla is a chef-driven spice company located in Asheville, NC. We offer fresh spices that are all packed and processed with care. Spicewalla is a part of the Chai Pani Restaurant Group family.


Position Summary

The Warehouse Manager is responsible for overseeing all warehouse operations, with primary focus on inventory management, shipping and receiving, and fulfillment operations. This hands-on leadership role ensures orders are fulfilled quickly, accurately, and cost- effectively while maintaining product quality and safety standards. The ideal candidate will balance operational execution with team development, evolving and creating efficient systems that support business growth.


Primary Responsibilities

Inventory Management

  • Manage and organize warehouse space to maximize efficiency and accessibility
  • Work with the Production Manager and Production Supervisor to maintain and organize production supplies including raw materials and packaging materials.
  • Coordinate receiving of raw materials, packaging, and other materials, ensuring proper organization and storage.
  • Optimize inventory placement of finished goods for efficient picking and packing processes.
  • Manage quarterly and annual inventory counts.

Fulfillment Operations

  • Prioritize and process orders across multiple sales channels (Shopify, Faire, wholesale, retail, food service).
  • Pull, pack, ship, invoice, and load orders according to quality standards, continually looking for ways to improve picking and packing efficiencies for growth.
  • Mentor and motivate fulfillment team members to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Audit orders for accuracy and quality prior to shipment, including tracking and reporting on fulfillment KPIs to help reduce mispicks, incorrect orders, etc.)

Shipping & Receiving Operations

  • Manage shipment and receipt of all products, materials, and supplies, adhering to relevant SOPs and Food Safety requirements.
  • Coordinate with couriers (USPS, UPS, FedEx etc..) and freight carriers (LTL, FTL)
  • Handle freight logistics including rate quotes, BOL creation, scheduling, and tracking
  • Audit shipping charges and file claims for damaged or missing shipments
  • Routinely audit existing freight carriers and negotiate for rates
  • Regularly coordinate with the Procurement Manager to ensure delivery deadlines and quality objectives are consistently met.
  • Maintain clean, organized shipping and receiving areas.
  • Train and supervise warehouse and fulfillment team members
  • Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training materials relevant to areas of oversight
  • Evaluate employee performance and provide constructive feedback
  • Foster a positive, safe work environment that promotes teamwork and accountability
  • Maintain company standards for quality and consistency, leading by example.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and warehouse procedures

Additional Responsibilities

  • Continuously refine workflows and warehouse operations for maximum efficiency
  • Participate in and promote food safety culture relevant to warehouse operations
  • Communicate with vendors, drivers, customer service, and external partners
  • Collaborate with other departments on business priorities and goals
  • Adapt policies and procedures to reflect evolving department needs

Qualifications

  • Previous warehouse management or fulfillment experience required - CPG warehouse experience a plus.
  • Should have strong organizational, communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with inventory management, Excel (spreadsheets) and logistics software
  • Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
  • Experience with multiple shipping carriers and freight logistics preferred (e.g. Ship Station, Faire, SPS Commerce etc…)
  • This position requires standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs independently), and physical activity throughout the workday in a warehouse environment.
  • Various and sometimes strong spice aromas
  • Mon - Fri, 9am- 5pm base schedule. Additional hours may be required based on operational and seasonal needs.
