Overview

NYTech's College of Osteopathic Medicine seeks a Speech Pathologist who will provide direct service to patients with communication and swallowing disorders at the Long Island (Old Westbury, NY) campus.

Responsibilities
  • Provide treatment of patients according to accepted standards of clinical practice and applicable insurance guidelines.
  • Evaluate patients using accepted standard of clinical practice and assessment batteries appropriate to the patient’s diagnosis.
  • Write comprehensive speech, language, cognitive, voice and/or swallowing reports that are sent to the referring physician.
  • Complete daily notes and progress reports in a timely manner.
  • Function as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Actively participate in the process of patient, family and staff education/counseling.
  • Treat individuals with Parkinson’s disease using modification of the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) program or Speak Out! Program; additional therapies include speech, language, cognitive linguistics, dysphagia, and voice.
  • Attend clinical rounds, departmental meetings, and care plan meetings and report patient status and progress in accordance with facility standards.
  • Maintain annual continuing education requirements for clinical practice.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree with a major in speech‑language pathology.
  • Certificate of clinical competence and licensure granted by the American Speech and Hearing Association.
  • Required field of expertise in Neurological Rehabilitation; preferred expertise in Geriatric Rehabilitation.
  • Health and Wellness Certification preferred.
  • Competent in creating hand and wrist splints and in recommending and educating about adaptive equipment for facilitation of activities in daily living.
  • CPR Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience preferred.

Salary
