Job description

The role of Speech and Language Pathologist and Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant in schools is to assess the individual needs of students and design programs to best aid students with language and speech problems. Treatment plans often involve working with students and their families and teachers. Speech therapists will work with students who have difficulty swallowing, refining students' enunciation skills, providing vocal instruction, and helping students who have suffered the loss of their voices. In addition to devising treatment programs and assisting students in school, speech therapists will additionally work with parents and teachers, instructing them on how to implement treatment elements.

Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) Educational Responsibilities:

These responsibilities include:
  • Conduct initial and reevaluations to provide information in determining whether or not a student is eligible was a child with a speech language impairment Write evaluation summary reports Communicate evaluation results in case conferences Provide documentation of evaluations
  • Serve as the Speech and Language Pathologist for students attending MSD of Decatur Township Schools
  • Provide consultation and assistance to staff
  • Schedule meeting times with students
  • Provide professional development and training as required or when requested
  • Collaborate with administration and other professionals in providing appropriate services to students
  • Conduct hearing screenings throughout the district
  • Develop, revise ,and monitor the speech section of IEPs for all students on your caseload Participate in annual case conferences Develop measurable goals, benchmarks, and objectives Maintain ongoing communication with teachers and parents Maintain current paperwork and confidentiality
  • Attend staff meetings and professional development activities
  • Submit any required information needed for local, state or federal reports
  • Follow procedural guidelines for purchasing, maintenance requests, and other required forms.
  • Make positive contributions to the culture and climate of MSD of Decatur Township
  • Keep records and bill Medicaid through IIEP system
Diagnostic, Assistive Technology, and Equipment Responsibilities:
  • Selecting appropriate technology and materials for the student
  • Monitoring communication skills of a student in a number of settings
  • Ordering equipment and supplies and requesting physical facilities
