Job summary

Penobscot Valley Hospital is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist for a full-time, 32 hour/week position. The role requires a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Maine licensure or eligibility, and CCC/ASHA eligibility.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in speech-language pathology required.
• Current license or license eligible in Maine.
• Must be eligible for or hold CCC from ASHA.
• Ability to problem solve with effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of speech therapy assessment and treatment for all ages from pediatrics to geriatrics.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates patients with speech, language, communication, cognitive-linguistic, and swallowing disorders upon provider referral using age-appropriate assessment methods.
• Interprets evaluation findings to develop individualized treatment goals and plans of care to improve functional communication, cognition, and swallowing safety.
• Provides speech-language pathology treatment interventions per the plan of care for communication, cognition, and swallowing impairments.
• Monitors patient progress and updates goals and interventions as clinically appropriate.
• Educates patients and family members regarding diagnoses, treatment strategies, home programs, safety recommendations, and compensatory techniques.
• Communicates evaluation findings, progress, and discharge recommendations with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
• Participates in multidisciplinary meetings, care coordination, and family meetings to support care and discharge planning.
• Completes accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, treatments, reassessments, and discharge summaries in the EMR.
• Ensures appropriate billing and charge capture for services provided as per hospital and payer requirements.
• Maintains therapy supplies and a safe treatment environment and responds to emergencies as needed.
• Complies with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and professional standards while maintaining organized patient care activities.
• Quality Improvement: participates in hospital-wide quality improvement and department initiatives.
