Job summary

Kern River Transitional Care Center in Bakersfield, CA is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) - PRN. Speech Language Pathologist PRN (Healthcare)

Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) - PRN
Kern River Transitional Care - Bakersfield, CA
Pay Range: $70 -$75 per hour (DOE)

General Purpose
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) evaluates and treats patients, communicates with families, physicians, and other healthcare team members, and maintains accurate documentation of services in the medical record. The SLP also conducts in-services and provides ongoing training for facility staff.

Essential Duties
  • Evaluate patients within 24 hours (or 1 business day) of physician referral; document any delays as required.
  • Develop and implement effective treatment plans and obtain physician approval for services.
  • Treat patients according to the physician's plan of care.
  • Supervise Speech-Language Pathologist Assistants in direct care and related activities in accordance with the state practice act.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisors and interdisciplinary team members regarding patient progress, concerns, and plans.
  • Participate in Patient Care Conferences, Utilization Review meetings, and Rehabilitation Conferences as needed.
  • Conduct in-service training sessions for facility staff.
  • Complete evaluations, daily notes, weekly progress reports, and recertifications per state and payer requirements.
  • Document any treatment changes per policy and procedures.
  • Instruct patients, families, and nursing staff in maintenance and caregiver programs prior to discharge.
  • Participate in discharge planning and interdisciplinary care coordination.
  • Serve as a clinical preceptor for Speech-Language Pathologist Clinical Fellows and student programs.
  • Comply with all applicable state and federal regulations and facility policies.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise CFY (Clinical Fellows) as applicable.
  • Assist nursing staff in the training of Restorative Aides.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Licensed as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the State of California.
  • Proficiency in Casamba, PointClickCare, or similar EHR systems preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
  • Current California SLP license in good standing.
  • Must meet continuing education requirements as set forth by state and federal guidelines.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, pushing, and pulling.
  • Occasional sitting, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and assist in transferring patients.
  • Visual and auditory acuity required for accurate assessment and communication.
Work Environment
  • Low to moderate noise levels typical of a healthcare setting.
