Job description

General Summary

Boston Children's Hospital’s OUTPATIENT Augmentative Communication Program (ACP) is seeking a full-time ASHA Certified Speech-Language Pathologist who specializes in Augmentative and Alternative Communication in the Waltham clinic. The appropriate candidate has extensive experience in evaluation and treatment of a broad range of individuals with complex communication needs. Detailed knowledge of current assistive technology and no-tech to high-tech solutions is required.

This is not a clinical fellowship position or clinical fellowship year position. Please do not apply if you are seeking a CF.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducting AAC related research and/or developing AAC related projects within the scope of this clinical position is encouraged. Clinicians in the ACP are strongly encouraged to develop their own areas of clinical interest related to AAC assessment and intervention that supports the mission of the program.
  • Comprehensive evaluation and management of pediatric communication disorders that reflect an in-depth understanding of a child’s speech, language, and communication profile and needs.
  • Providing parent/caregiver education and counseling regarding diagnoses and follow-up services and referrals.
  • Completing timely and thorough documentation related to patient caseload including comprehensive evaluation reports, treatment plans, daily treatment notes, and therapy discharge summaries.
  • Working in collaboration and partnership with physicians, speech-language pathologists, and other health care and educational professionals.
  • Maintaining up-to-date clinical knowledge and education via continuing education pursuits. Participating in Program meetings, committees, and projects.
Minimum Requirements
Education, License and Certifications
  • A Master’s degree in Speech Pathology or a closely related field
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (ASHA).
  • A current Massachusetts state license to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist.
Experience
  • 2 or more years of directly related clinical experience strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills to work as part of a tight-knit team.
