Job summary

The Speech Language Pathologist at Maple Hill Elementary and Naugatuck High School works on a multidisciplinary team to evaluate and service students with communication impairments within the school setting. You will implement programs, report to the Director of Special Services and Building Principal, and align with Connecticut standards.

Annual assignment is by contract; robust collaboration with teachers, families, and other specialists to monitor progress and adjust plans to support student

Qualifications

  • Certification as a School Speech/Language Pathologist.
  • Experience evaluating and servicing students with communication needs.
  • Familiarity with CT Core Standards and SPED policies.

Responsibilities

  • Participates on multidisciplinary team to evaluate and service students’ communication needs.
  • Develops and implements instructional modifications to support learning.
  • Collaborates with teachers, families and other professionals to plan programs.
  • Assists reporting to the State Department of Education on pupils served in SPED.
  • Performs duties within employment certification scope.

Speech /Language Pathologist
Maple Hill Elementary & Naugatuck High School
The Speech Language Pathologist participates on a multidisciplinary educational team to evaluate, identify and service those children who have demonstrated impact on their communication skills within the school environment.

  • Complies with all published and disseminated rules, regulations and policies of the Board of Education.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the Connecticut Common Core of Teaching, the Connecticut Common Core of Learning and the Connecticut Framework documents and their role in facilitating improved student learning.
  • Complies with all published and disseminated rules, regulations and policies of the Federal and State Department of Education as they apply to special education.
  • Serves on a multidisciplinary educational team as appropriate during the pre-referral process.
  • Evaluates and/or assumes responsibility for the screening and/or assessment of children with communication difficulties.
  • Interprets assessment results, which may result in implementation of a program.
  • Collaborates with other professionals and/or parents to determine the impact of speech and language impairments on a child's educational success.
  • Develops and assists in the implementation of instructional and curricular modifications to accommodate children's communication impairments.
  • Shares knowledge about communication development of school-age students.
  • Assists in reporting to State Department of Education on number of pupils being served in special education programs.
  • Performs additional duties, where appropriate, which are assigned within the scope of employment and certification.
