Job summary

Naugatuck Public Schools is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist to serve elementary and high school students at Maple Hill Elementary School and Naugatuck High School. The successful candidate will participate on a multidisciplinary educational team to evaluate and service students with communication impairments, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

Certification as a School SLP is required; work year by contract.

Qualifications

  • Certification as a School Speech/Language Pathologist is required.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and/or assumes responsibility for the screening and/or assessment of children with communication difficulties.
  • Interprets assessment results, which may result in implementation of a program.
  • Collaborates with other professionals and/or parents to determine the impact of speech and language impairments on a child's educational success.
  • Develops and assists in the implementation of instructional and curricular modifications to accommodate children's communication impairments.
  • Shares knowledge about communication development of school-age students.
  • Assists in reporting to the State Department of Education on number of pupils being served in special education programs.

Speech /Language Pathologist
Maple Hill Elementary & Naugatuck High School
The Speech Language Pathologist participates on a multidisciplinary educational team to evaluate, identify and service those children who have demonstrated impact on their communication skills within the school environment.

  • Complies with all published and disseminated rules, regulations and policies of the Board of Education.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the Connecticut Common Core of Teaching, the Connecticut Common Core of Learning and the Connecticut Framework documents and their role in facilitating improved student learning.
  • Complies with all published and disseminated rules, regulations and policies of the Federal and State Department of Education as they apply to special education.
  • Serves on a multidisciplinary educational team as appropriate during the pre-referral process.
  • Evaluates and/or assumes responsibility for the screening and/or assessment of children with communication difficulties.
  • Interprets assessment results, which may result in implementation of a program.
  • Collaborates with other professionals and/or parents to determine the impact of speech and language impairments on a child's educational success.
  • Develops and assists in the implementation of instructional and curricular modifications to accommodate children's communication impairments.
  • Shares knowledge about communication development of school-age students.
  • Assists in reporting to State Department of Education on number of pupils being served in special education programs.
  • Performs additional duties, where appropriate, which are assigned within the scope of employment and certification.
